Turning Point USA Gets a Chapter At Southern University

Turning Point USA (TPUSA) is an American nonprofit organization that advocates for conservative values on high school, college, and university campuses. It was founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk and Bill Montgomery, with the goal of pushing back against the rampant ideological leftism on college campuses and universities.

According to their website, the student program exists to educate young people about the importance of limited government, free markets, and freedom.

With 800+ college chapters, Turning Point USA College is the largest and most impactful movement for promoting freedom-loving, American values. Students champion these initiatives by organizing into student-led chapters on their campus. Students are encouraged to be leaders in their communities and educate others on American ideals in a fun and compelling way.

Apparently there is a new TPUSA startup at Southern Adventist University—perhaps in the wake of Charlie’s assassination.

Adventist Muslim Relations Summit

COLLEGEDALE, TN—An Adventist Muslim Relations summit sponsored by the North American Division was held at Southern Adventist University March 12-13 in Lynn Wood Hall. Its purpose was to help facilitate Adventists in understanding Islam and connect with Muslims. Guest speakers from around the country included Lucila Reis, Rhoda Lapp, Heidi Guttschuss, Jarod Thomas, Ira and Esther Farley, Jeff Gates, Frank Strack, Justin Jones, Christen Cool and Luther Whiting.

Bryan Gallant, Director of North American Division Adventist Muslim Relations, invited the featured speaker for the event—former US Congressman and representative to the United Nations General Assembly, Mark Siljander, Ph.D. Siljander is also author of “A Deadly Misunderstanding.” He spoke about being a right-wing evangelical who turned his own misunderstandings of Muslims and Islam into deeper study of the Bible for answers. God's response began a personal, religious and political journey that changed his life, and brought him into contact with leaders in remote and volatile areas of the world. Using the example of Jesus, coupled with respect and humility, he told how God is using him to forge deep ties with these political and religious leaders and become a conduit for bringing peace and healing to these countries as well as helping heal the rift between these countries and the West.

The summit gave important information regarding how to connect with leaders in the area already involved in bridging the gap between Muslims and Christians, as well as providing resources in the form of books and DVD's. For more information, please visit http://www.amfaatlanta.com/.

Friends React To Southern Adventist Student's Murder

Friends and Faculty are mourning the loss of a Southern Adventist University student killed halfway across the world.

Kirsten Wolcott was on a student mission project in the Sate of Yap in Micronesia when she was murdered earlier this week. Her friends at Southern Adventist University say Wolcott loved to teach and that's exactly what she was doing in Yap when she was killed.

On Wednesday Kirsten Wolcott went for a run on the remote island of Yap in Micronesia, but she never returned. Initial reports state her body was found in the woods after she'd been stabbed to death.

"I couldn't believe it because she was my friend first of all and i've never had a friend be murdered and it could have been me so easily," Hanna Freire, Wolcott's friend, says.

That's because Freire served as a missionary in Yap last year.

"It was like I was taken out of my life there and she was placed in it," Freire says. "I can see my students faces as they found her and it's really hard I still have not comprehended how I feel about this."

Freire tells us Wolcott was always sweet, caring, loved God, and loved to help others.

"We are bleeding as a church, as a school family we've lost one of our own," Chaplain Brennon Kirstein says.

Kirstein says Southern Adventist University is offering counseling for students right now. He tells us the University currently has eighty-six other missionaries across the globe who are serving just like Wolcott.

"And she laid her life down for a much higher cause and we salute her and we're incredibly proud of her and may others follow her example," Kirstein says.

It's an example her friends say stood out nearly half way across the world.

"She loved being a student missionary and so many people will get scared away because of the whole student missions because of this story but Kirsten would want them to go," Wolcott says.

We have learned that an arrest has been made in connection with Wolcott's death but right now details are very limited.
