Whether one considers it a prerequisite for being a Democrat or for conning immigration authorities, the skill of deception is one that Ilhan Omar admits she acquired as a child.
Ever since the Oct. 12 raid on her Washington, D.C., home amid an investigation that touches of potential immigration fraud, the Minnesota Democrat’s autobiography has been a gold mine of stories that indicate lying was simply a way of life.
Attorney Laura Powell posted a gem she found on X, in which she notes that on pages 20 and 21 of Omar’s tale of woe, she recounts that in Somalia as a child she lied about her family and clan, saying it was needful.
That has emerged as a flashpoint in the Democrat’s recent controversy because Omar was listed as being 17-years-old as an applicant for citizenship on paperwork submitted by her father. However, according to a significant detail seemingly revealed in the book, the congresswoman was 18, and would have had to apply on her own.
“I was eight years old when civil war broke out in Somalia. One day everything was okay, and the next, there were bullets piercing not only buildings but also people,” the site noted in an excerpt from the book.
Being eight years old in 1989 would imply she was older than 17 when immigration paperwork was submitted saying she was 17.

The memoir also states that during a 2011 trip to Somalia, Omar said she was 30, which again would make her 18, not 17, when the immigration paperwork was filed.
The Federalist report goes further, noting that multiple media pieces published in the Atlantic, BBC, Le Temp and Dawn, a Pakistani media outlet, all have her born in 1981.
As has been noted previously, after she was elected to Congress, her staff sought to revise history by changing her birth date to 1982.

As noted by the New York Post, playing fast and loose about her age is not the only issue facing Omar.

Omar is under investigation for an alleged marriage to her brother Ahmed Elmi, which could constitute immigration fraud, as well as whether a dramatic rise and fall in her net worth was a mistake or another con job.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Friday that the case against Omar is extensive, but did not offer details.
“This isn’t just a case that’s targeting one individual. This is a large case that we have presented to the DOJ, and the DOJ is leading the investigations,” he said.
