The Riots in France Show Up the Dangerous Fiction That Public Spending and ‘Integration’ Create a Peaceful Society

The riots in France have shown up the Leftist claim that enough public spending and 'integration' will produce a happy, peaceful society as a dangerous fiction. But is anyone paying attention, asks Matt Roberts.

The violence, looting and burning in France over the weekend of October 24th-25th was somewhat less intense and widespread than it had been on the previous weekend, but it was still significant. A demonstration comprising an estimated 400,000 people took place on the Saturday in Paris, confined to the south-eastern edge of the city, and this was followed by violent clashes with police near Porte de Vincennes, about a 45-minute walk from the Place de la Bastille. Water cannon and tear gas were used. Around 500 rioters were estimated to have broken off from the main protest. There were more clashes, as well as bin fires and looting in Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Lille, Toulouse, Nantes, Grenoble, Rennes and several other parts of France. There were around 1,000 arrests nationwide (1,300 by some reports), with 70,000 police having been deployed to the streets, which was a substantial increase on the previous weekend’s deployment. Activists have called for further action on October 31st, and it’s clear that the sentiment behind the unrest hasn’t gone away. The weather on the 31st is forecast to be mild and dry, more similar to that of the 17th than the wetter, colder 24th, so it remains to be seen how much the tensions have been defused, and to what extent the less dedicated were put off by the weather.

There are two competing narratives in the media (mainstream and alternative) about the motivations for the unrest, and indeed the nature of the unrest. On the one hand, this is a ‘mostly peaceful’ expression of the French people’s frustration with public services. It started with teachers and students protesting against the underfunding of schools, and has widened to express a broader discontent with austerity measures and the economy in general. On the other hand, this is a violent ethno-religious-communist uprising trying to bring down the French state and overturn French society.

French protest groups demand more rallies as Macron faces tough choices

By Crispian Balmer and Juliette Jabkhiro

Summary
  • Protest groups call for protests on October 31
  • Nationwide strike scheduled for November 5
  • Authorities said 410,000 people marched on Saturday

PARIS, Oct 25 (Reuters) - French protest groups and unions called on Sunday for further demonstrations as they sought to maintain pressure on the government after a huge security operation helped to contain unrest ‌during nationwide rallies on Saturday.

The Interior Ministry said 410,000 people took part in Saturday's marches as authorities deployed 70,000 police, helping to avert a repeat of the looting and vandalism that swept many cities on October 17.

Labour leaders urged further protests next Saturday and a nationwide strike on November 5, saying frustration over wages, living costs and public services was spreading far beyond the student movement that first mobilised last month.

"We see an aggregation of anger," Murielle Guilbert, co-leader of the left-wing Solidaires trade union federation, told BFM TV. She said grievances from students, workers, firefighters and other groups were converging.

"We call on people to take to the streets next Saturday."

The SUD Education teaching union said it would join the October 31 demonstration while the large CGT union said it would decide during the week.

MACRON'S SCOPE TO RESPOND IS MINIMAL

The Yellow Vests, a grassroots movement that emerged in 2018 as a revolt against fuel taxes, also called for mass rallies next Saturday, including sit-ins outside town halls and the National Assembly.

From France to Albania, social unrest is setting Europe’s streets ablaze

Rising fuel costs, discontent with the state of schools, declining public services and a housing crisis are fueling an autumn of protests in Europe. Crowds have protested for weeks in major cities, with some demonstrations marked by arrests, looting, injuries and violence across France, Spain, Italy and Albania.

MADRID (AP) — Rising fuel costs, discontent with the state of schools, declining public services and a housing crisis are fueling an autumn of protests in Europe.

Crowds have protested for weeks in major cities, with some demonstrations marked by arrests, looting, injuries and violence across France, Italy and Albania. In Spain and Portugal, tent camps have sprung up to protest unaffordable housing.

Young Europeans are experiencing “a strong sense of uncertainty and a lack of control,” said María Silvestre, professor of sociology at the University of Deusto in Spain. “And when specific situations come together, a spark suddenly ignites that is capable of channeling that discontent and driving people into the streets.”

Cities have turned into battlefields as top EU economies, including France, Italy and Spain, approach pivotal elections, while far-right parties have made electoral gains in Germany and could do so elsewhere. It also comes as Europe faces a critical moment in its support for Ukraine, with President Donald Trump making overtures to President Vladimir Putin even as Russia is blamed for increasingly frequent arson attacks, cyberattacks and other acts of sabotage in NATO countries.

Right-wing politicians have seized on the chaos. While protests in France have appeared broad-based, Trump portrayed immigrants as responsible for the destruction, writing Monday on his Truth Social platform: “The migrants have taken over France. They must CLOSE THE BORDERS, FAST!”

Many of the protests have been fueled by frustrated young people. Other actors, including black-clad, masked agitators, have fomented violence, but French authorities and police have not blamed immigrants.

The Revolutionary Side of Paris | From Protest to Chaos

The Revolutionary Side of Paris | From Protest to Chaos

Slow Walk Journey

Oct 18, 2026  PARIS

Experience a very different side of Paris in this immersive walking documentary, following the events of October 17 and their aftermath on October 18.

The video alternates between scenes filmed during the demonstrations on October 17 and the streets of Paris the following day, revealing the contrast between the protest itself and what was left behind.

Please note that the October 17 and October 18 sequences were filmed in different locations across Paris and are edited together to show the contrast between the protest and its aftermath.

What begins with marches through the city gradually grows more tense : crowded streets, confrontations with police, fires and scenes of unrest. Between these moments, we return to Paris on October 18, where the consequences become increasingly visible, littered streets, damaged Vélib’ bikes and street furniture, burned shops, shattered storefronts and the remains of destroyed vehicles.

As the video progresses, the intensity rises, creating a cause-and-aftermath perspective on two very different days in the streets of Paris.

This is not a conventional Paris walking tour, but a street-level record of a city experiencing protest, tension, disorder and the morning after.

Unrest, Fear, and Upheaval

Prophecy

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. Luke 21:25-26.

Fulfillment

This sounds strangely like an editorial from a current newspaper--a perfect picture of the world today--and there is a reason: We are the people of the very last days of earth's history.

All around us the world is manifesting intense activity. There is a feeling of apprehension among all people; they are looking for some great event, but know not what it is to be. The nations are filled with anxiety, and there is a spirit of unrest and tumult on every hand. If ever there was a time when men should look to the Bible it is now.

The tense atmosphere present in the world today should not surprise us. Christ foretold it. It should convince us that His coming is near.

Meet The Republicans Who Sided With Anthony Fauci To Shut Down The Country

Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul released Dr. Anthony Fauci’s personal diary Sunday, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the first Trump administration officials who aligned with Fauci as the country shut down during COVID-19.

The diary entries portray an administration divided over lockdowns, school closures and messaging, with several Republican officials backing the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director’s efforts to maintain sweeping public health restrictions while sidelining dissenting voices. One of the officials who backed the public health bureaucrat was Hope Hicks, a counselor to the president and former White House communications director, whom Fauci described as “very nice” after their first meeting in March 2020.

Fauci soon wrote that Hicks appeared to view him as a “future ally” after seeming uncomfortable with Trump’s desire for the COVID-19 team to hold two press briefings a day to boost morale and the economy through public transparency.

By early April, as Easter approached, Trump had grown increasingly frustrated with the continued shutdown of the economy and the country, calling Hicks and Fauci into the Oval Office to discuss reopening. Fauci wrote that Trump was “almost pleading” not to extend the country’s closure beyond the 30-day lockdown extension.

According to Fauci, Trump said he was destroying the country and that sports leagues and industry would be devastated by the administration’s recommendations.

In an attempt to appeal to Fauci’s Catholic background, Trump proposed reopening the country for Easter, Good Friday and Palm Sunday, suggesting that Masses could be held outdoors or in a drive-in format, but Fauci said he wasn’t persuaded by the president’s recommendation.

“Hope Hicks and I convinced him to essentially put Easter on hold for this year,” Fauci wrote.

By early October, Fauci wrote in bold red letters that “Hope Hicks is infected!!!”

The US airports where you should brace for long security lines as unpaid TSA agents stop showing up for work

By Lina Batarags and Taylor Rains

  • Some US airports are warning travelers about long TSA lines.
  • The delays come as TSA agents, facing a missed paycheck amid the partial government shutdown, are not coming to work.
  • Houston Hobby, San Juan, and New Orleans Louis Armstrong Airport all warned of delays.
The effects of the partial government shutdown have been on display in some US airports since the weekend.

As TSA agents are expected to miss their first full paycheck on Saturday because of the partial shutdown, which started in February, some are not coming in to work.

On Sunday and Monday, the staffing shortages resulted in long lines in some airports. The disruption, which appears to have lessened in some airports as of Tuesday morning, comes as air travel hits the busy spring break period.

In X posts on Monday, the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the TSA, described the situation as "spring break under siege" and shared photos of throngs of people waiting in an airport.

For now, the chaos appears largely localized to a handful of airports — but travelers should expect lines across the US to worsen the longer the security officers work without pay.
