Boston homicide detectives are investigating a death at a Mattapan rental property that city records tie to the husband of Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley.
Officers reached 25 Malta St. at 1:52 p.m. after a caller asked police to check on a person there, department spokesperson James Moccia told CBS News Boston. They found the individual dead, Moccia said, adding that he had nothing further to share and that the homicide unit had taken the case.
A second department spokesperson, Sgt. Det. John Boyle, characterized the matter to The Boston Globe as a death investigation. Police have not named the deceased or disclosed a cause of death, and few specifics had surfaced by Saturday evening, the Globe reported. Red crime scene tape ringed the property and a cruiser idled out front that evening, CBS News Boston reported. An officer stood watch at the front door, and officers on scene would not say whether anyone had been staying there, according to Mass Daily News.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy details the Trump administration's crackdown on commercial driver's licenses issued to illegal immigrants. The effort follows a fatal Ohio crash involving an Uzbek national who authorities said spoke no English, as well as the death of a Pennsylvania state trooper struck by a Haitian national with a Massachusetts commercial driver's license. Duffy argues those licenses should be revoked to help keep America's roads safe.
A 21-year-old Indian national who federal authorities said was in the U.S. illegally was sentenced Tuesday to four years and eight months in prison for causing a fiery Southern California crash that killed three people last year.
Jashanpreet Singh pleaded guilty to three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence stemming from the October 2025 crash, according to NBC Los Angeles.
Authorities said Singh was driving a semitruck that plowed into slow-moving traffic on Interstate 10 in San Bernardino County, killing three people and injuring several others.

Fox News Digital previously reported that Singh is an illegal immigrant from India who crossed the southern border in 2022 and was released into the United States by the Biden administration.
According to federal sources, Singh was first encountered by Border Patrol agents in California's El Centro Sector in March 2022 and released pending an immigration hearing.
The crash, which was captured on dashcam video, showed Singh never applying the brakes before slamming into traffic, according to investigators.

'Our hearts are broken': Pastor mourns loss after deadly tent collapse at outdoor church event

Pastor Troy Keaton of EastLake Community Church in Moneta, Virginia, said his church family was grieving after one person died and more than 20 others were injured when a burst of wind lifted a tent during an outdoor 20th-anniversary service.
The collapse happened at about 6:45 p.m. on Friday during an outdoor service, and a severe storm cell had moved through the area with heavy rain, lightning and strong winds before the tent structure failed, according to a statement by Bedford County, Virginia.
Eleven people were taken by ambulance to local hospitals, and 11 others were treated at the scene for minor injuries. One person died at the scene.
Bedford 911 Emergency Communications received the initial report and classified the incident as a mass casualty event.
First responders from Moneta Volunteer Fire Department were already at the event and began rescue efforts immediately, while emergency personnel and resources from neighboring localities also responded, according to the county’s statement.
The tent had passed an inspection by the Bedford County Division of Building Inspections last Tuesday.
County officials extended condolences to the church community and thanked local and regional first responders for their work.
The release linked the failure to weather conditions, saying the storm cell brought heavy rain, lightning and strong winds before the tent failed.

McKINNEY, Texas — A Texas jury found Karmelo Anthony guilty Tuesday of the 2025 murder of Austin Metcalf, a fellow high school student at a Dallas-area track meet.
The verdict, reached in less than three hours and read by Texas District Court Judge John Roach Jr., carries with it a sentence of five years to life in prison. Anthony was 17 at the time, but Texas law allowed him to be charged as an adult. He is now 19.
Some in the courtroom reacted with cries and Metcalf’s twin brother, who made his first appearance in the courtroom, leaned forward. Anthony’s mother wept. Roach had warned people in the courtroom to control their emotions when the verdict was read. Anthony’s attorney kept an arm wrapped around him.

On 3 December 2025, Henry Nowak (/ˈnoʊvæk/), an 18‑year‑old British university student, was murdered by Vickrum Digwa, a 23-year-old British Sikh man, in Southampton, England. Digwa stabbed Nowak five times with a Sikh dagger, including a fatal wound to the chest. When police officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary arrived, Digwa falsely accused Nowak of assault. Police body camera shows that Nowak repeatedly told the officers that he had been stabbed and pleaded that "I can't breathe," as the police handcuffed him. Nowak died shortly after being handcuffed.

James “Jim” Arrabito (1950-1990) was a multifaceted figure whose life straddled the worlds of art, evangelism, and historical research. His exhibitions were not mere lectures but visual journeys through time, tracing the footsteps of Sabbath-keeping communities throughout history—what he called the “Church in the Wilderness.”

His most celebrated exhibition, displayed at the 1990 General Conference Session of Seventh-day Adventists in Indianapolis, featured stunning images documenting traces of Sabbath-keeping churches through the ages from around the world. A maniac slashed three elderly people with a machete in an unprovoked attack and was fatally shot by cops at Grand Central Terminal Saturday morning, police said.
An 85-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man were slashed on the 4, 5, 6 subway platform at the iconic station at 9:50 a.m., cops said.
The victims were taken to local hospitals in stable condition, cops said.
