Nation on High Alert After 2 Terrorist Attacks

Following two recent homegrown terrorist attacks in New York and Texas, federal authorities are on high alert for potential future strikes.

In the last week, our nation has experienced 2 homegrown terrorist attacks: 1 in Texas and another in New York. As federal authorities warn that more attacks may be in the future, we’re all on high alert. When will the next strike take place?

After Saturday’s attempted bombing in New York, near the mayor’s home, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch believes this was a confirmed and attempted terrorist attack:

“As alleged, both defendants have admitted that they acted on Saturday because of ISIS," she said.

Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, added that the two suspects, Amir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi, came to New York from PA with the intent to declare terrorism as an act against anti-Islam protests.

“There is video of these individuals throwing two devices towards the protest," Mamdani noted. "The police department has determined that these were improvised explosive devices made to injure, maim, or worse."

Since being taken into custody at the scene of the crime, Police Commissioner Tisch confirmed that the devices found on the two suspects were indeed IEDs, improvised explosive devices, that could have caused serious injury or death. Further analysis even revealed that one of the IEDs contained triacetone triperoxide, known as TATP. TATP is a “highly volatile homemade explosive that has been used in IED attacks around the world. Our bomb squad then rendered safe both devices,” said Tisch.

In response to the attacks, New York police have increased protection across the state and deployed over 1,000 National Guard members for ample security. The NY Times suggests that the attacks seem to be a direct response to President Trump’s orders with the Defense Department in November to “prepare to intervene militarily in the West African nation, citing a need to protect Christians from Islamic militants.”

The pope urges an end to Iran conflict

01-03-2026 02:50 PM

Ammon News -Pope Leo XIV said Sunday he was “profoundly concerned” about the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and urged both sides to “stop the spiral of violence before it becomes an irreparable abyss.”

In the first reaction to the attacks, the American pope called for the resumption of diplomacy and a “reasonable, authentic and responsible” dialogue based on justice. Weapons, he said, only sow “destruction, pain and death.”

“Faced with the possibility of a tragedy of enormous proportions, I make a heartfelt appeal to the parties involved to assume their moral responsibility to stop the spiral of violence before it becomes an irreparable abyss,” Leo said.

Romania evacuates border village after Russian drone attack on gas tanker

Romania evacuates border village after Russian drone attack on gas tanker

Three Romanian villages have been evacuated after Russia attacked a Turkish LNG tanker off the coast of neighbouring Ukraine on Monday.

The MR Orinda suffered significant damage during a Russian strike in Ukraine's southern Odesa region and scores of people were evacuated, mostly from the border village of Tulcea in the Nato member state, over fears it could explode.

It was hit during the offloading of liquefied petroleum gas at Izmail port, Turkey said, with the attack coming one day after Volodymyr Zelensky signed a deal to import US liquefied natural gas through the area.

(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 19 - Father Gabriel Romanelli, the priest of the Catholic Holy Family parish in Gaza, spoke of the death and destruction taking place in the enclave on Friday in a video message transmitted in Naples Cathedral for the feast of the city's patron, Saint Januarius (San Gennaro). "The situation continues to be very serious throughout the Gaza Strip with the bombings," he said. "A war situation continues and the death that has already taken away tens of thousands of people continues: more than 18,000 children have been killed and the hostages still have not experienced the right to live in freedom, the wounded and the sick still have no possibility of treatment because the hospital lacks everything. The weapons have taken over." Romanelli said that he was staying put after Israel launched its offensive to take control of Gaza City on Tuesday, when the Vatican said Pope Leo XIV had telephoned him to express his "concern" and assure him of his "prayer and closeness". Romanelli was among several wounded in a strike by Israeli forces on the Holy Family Catholic Church that killed three people in July. Before his death in April, Pope Francis had spoken by phone nearly every day with Romanelli to check up on the Gaza parish following the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023. (ANSA).
