BRICS foreign ministers meet in India as Iran war, fuel crisis dominate agenda
Deep divisions within BRICS over the Middle East war and criticism of Western powers have raised uncertainty over whether the meeting will produce a joint statement.

Foreign ministers from the BRICS group of nations, including Iran and Russia, started their meetings in India on Thursday, with the Middle East conflict and related fuel crisis set to dominate discussions.
India, which holds the BRICS chair this year, is hosting the two-day gathering of foreign ministers from the expanded bloc, which now includes Iran and the United Arab Emirates, countries at odds over the conflict launched by the United States and Israel on February 28.
India's foreign ministry said talks will focus on "global and regional issues of mutual interest", spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters.
With India serving as the bloc’s chair, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is not attending the meeting as Beijing is currently hosting US President Donald Trump for a summit with President Xi Jinping.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi arrived in New Delhi late on Wednesday, Iran's embassy in India said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is also attending. He met his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar after arriving in New Delhi on Wednesday evening.
Jaishankar said in a statement that their discussions included "trade and investment, energy and connectivity" as well as "global and multilateral issues".
"Our political cooperation is even more valuable in an uncertain and volatile global environment," Jaishankar added.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani shook hands with King Charles III after he said that if he were to speak with the monarch during his visit to New York, he would urge the monarch to return a massive crown jewel to India.
“If I were to speak to the King separately from that, I’d probably encourage him to return the Kohinoor diamond,” Mamdani said when asked at a press conference hours before the 9/11 ceremony, coming just months after the mayor showed his true colors during a crisis.
The diamond, originating in the Kollur mine in present-day Andhra Pradesh, India, is set into a royal crown on display in the Tower of London. Seized by the East India Company after its victory in the Second Anglo-Sikh War of 1849, the gem was given to Queen Victoria and has remained part of the Crown Jewels ever since. But countries including India, Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan have all claimed ownership. The controversy between the mayor and King Charles came as Donald Trump was caught on camera doing a shocking act to Melania at an inappropriate moment.

The FBI Baltimore Field Office, Montgomery County Police Department and Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office announced that a coordinated investigation traced scams reported by Montgomery County, Maryland, residents to “extensive international scam call center operations in India that had been targeting Americans since 2022,” according to a news release (1).
The FBI says that about 660 people in the U.S. reported falling victim to government impersonation and tech support scams since 2022 that were connected to the call centers, with losses totaling a staggering $48,778,230. In Maryland alone, nearly two dozen victims reported losing a total of $6,257,869.

India had on Thursday condemned Omar's visit to PoK as violative of India's territorial integrity and sovereignty and that it reflected her "narrow-minded" politics. 'Can't be dissuaded': Believers unite in prayer for persecuted Christians enduring violence

An imprisoned Indian pastor regained the strength to remain faithful after God allowed another pastor to be arrested and sent to the same prison to encourage him, showcasing the importance of fellowship with other believers facing some of the worst persecution the world has to offer.
As Christians around the world observe Sunday's International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, Voice of the Martyrs' Vice President and radio host Todd Nettleton reflected on the stories of Christians who are oppressed for their faith and the miraculous signs of God they encounter during their trials.
Nettleton encouraged believers to put themselves in the shoes of those suffering for their faith.
"The important thing is to put ourselves in their place," the ministry leader told The Christian Post, citing Hebrews 13:3, which states, "Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering."
"If I were in prison, I'd want to know people were praying for me and looking out for my family," Nettleton said. "And I would want to know that they were banging the drum to say, 'Hey, this guy's not a criminal. Let him go free.'"
The VOM radio host recounted his recent trip to South Asia, where he met with Christians in India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. Despite threats from their communities or from the government to burn down their houses or beat them up, Nettleton said that he witnessed persecuted Christians remaining steadfast in their faith.
One story that Nettleton said deeply moved him concerned an Indian pastor who was placed in prison for four months. The radio host met the pastor a few weeks ago during his travels with VOM's international ministry team, which walks alongside persecuted Christians and listens to their stories.

When Fr Xavier Jeyaraj, the former Secretary for Social Justice and Ecology, set out to compile a volume that detailed the commitment of the Society of Jesus to social justice, his aim was simple: gather some key documents that showed how the Jesuits responded to the struggles of the world. This idea, which sprouted during the 2019 jubilee of the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES) at the General Curia, has now taken the shape of a two-volume, over-1500-page collection – the most complete record of how the Jesuits have been involved in social justice since 1891.
The volumes are titled A Journey of Faith Promoting Justice (1891-2024). Volume one brings together relevant Complementary Norms of the Constitutions of the Society from 1996 where references to social apostolate were formally included. Alongside these are the Decrees of various General Congregations of the Society of Jesus.
Also included in volume one are letters from Superior Generals of the Society that are relevant to social justice, beginning with Wlodimir Ledóchowski and continuing through Arturo Sosa.
