Nicaragua evolves as energy broker
Nicaragua has surged ahead of six other Central American nations in building an electrical grid that will distribute power throughout the region, the Inter-American Development Bank said.Nicaragua may sell 300 megawatts of energy to countries linked to the grid by the middle of next year, converting the country into an energy broker for the first time, the bank said Monday.
The 1,144-mile grid will connect Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua, and Mexico and Colombia may join. The bank is the principal financier of the $250 million Electricity Interconnection System for Central America.
