Strong winds are being blamed for some minor damage and power outages across the five boroughs Wednesday.

Con Edison and the Long Island Power Authority both reported power outages throughout Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island.

In Dyker Heights, a tree was knocked down causing an outage and residents say it's been a problem before.

"The residents of the house have complained for numerous years because they saw that the tree was rotting and other limbs have fallen off of the tree in past years as well and nothing was ever done. And today it was done by nature," said one Dyker Heights resident.

It was a similar situation elsewhere in Brooklyn where at least two trees were knocked down, one in Gravesend and the other in Bath Beach.

"We called about this tree about four months ago, five months ago, and they told us they would come by and trim the tree because we knew sooner or later it was going to break down because the limbs were pretty thin and it eventually happened today. It got pretty windy and one of the branches broke and fell down," said one Brooklyn resident.

A large tree also toppled over on Staten Island.

The National Weather Service says it's gotten reports of some wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.

In Midtown Manhattan, a downed street lamp caused traffic problems at the intersection of West 31st Street and 9th Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

The Department of Buildings is urging property owners, builders, and contractors to take necessary precautions.
