CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - As Tropical Storm Danny continues to gain strength in the Atlantic Ocean, Rhode Island's Emergency Management Agency is urging people to take action in the event the storm hits.
The National Hurricane Center said Danny will continue to move Northwest and that it's possible the storm could quickly move up the coast and threaten New England this weekend - bringing with it three to eight inches of rain.
If Danny remains on track , the NHC said the storm could make landfall Saturday night near Nantucket as a Category 1 Hurricane. It's effect on Rhode Island could be more like a tropical storm, bringing heavy rain and some coastal flooding.
RIEMA urges homeowners to make sure:
Gutters are clean
Sump pumps are functioning
Outdoor furniture is secure
