Ceasefire With Iran Takes Hold: Strait of Hormuz Reopens as Ships Begin Safe Passage

There are Plenty of Religious Underpinnings to Our Founding

(Terrance Emerson/Dreamstime.com)

Sometimes we are led to believe today that the Founding Fathers of America were men of the Enlightenment, meaning that, for the most part, they were not believers in Jesus.

But that’s not true that they were mostly skeptics.

There were a few, but they were the exception — not the rule.

And besides, Enlightenment thinkers, like Montesquieu, Sir William Blackstone, and John Locke — whose writings were important to America's Founders — were professing Christians, who often based their arguments on the Bible.

250 years ago from this month, the Continental Congress — the same men that would adopt the Declaration of Independence by voice vote on July 4 — proclaimed a Day of Prayer for the fledgling nation-to-be.

This was no namby-pamby, "To Whom It May Concern," - type prayer — that we’re so often used to today. This was a bold Christian document by professing Christians, representing a population back home that was 99.8% professing Christians.

In that proclamation of a Day of Fasting, Prayer, and Humiliation, March 16, 1776, the founders declared, "In times of impending calamity and distress; when the liberties of America are imminently endangered by the secret machinations and open assaults of an insidious and vindictive administration, it becomes the indispensable duty of these hitherto free and happy colonies, with true penitence of heart, and the most reverent devotion, publicly to acknowledge the over ruling providence of God."

Based on this opening paragraph and other writings of the times, they said: We used to be happy and enjoy life here in these British colonies in North America.

We enjoyed our rights as Englishmen. Rights that dated back to the Magna Charta in 1215, which were affirmed in the British Bill of Rights of 1689.

Romanism the Religion of Human Nature

There is great need that all who claim to be Bible Christians should take the Scriptures as they read. There is need of arriving at right conclusions as to what the Scriptures mean in their reference to the man of sin, who thought to change times and laws. He had no real power to change the time and the law of God, but he thought himself able to do this work; for he “opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” He is an imitator of the first great rebel, the originator of sin. In heaven Satan thought to change the laws of God, and for this purpose he changed his character and his position in the heavenly courts, and influenced others until they united with him in the work of rebellion against God; but he did not succeed in changing the law of God. God did not alter or change his form of government to suit Satan’s ideas, but made it manifest that the foundation of his government in heaven and earth is as unchangeable as is the throne itself.

When Satan could not induce all the angels to revolt against the law of God, he made the earth the scene of his rebellion, and through the man of sin seeks to carry out his diabolical purpose. Through the Papacy, the Roman power, the man of sin, the purpose of Satan is carried out among men; the law and the time of God are set aside. In this we see that Protestantism is giving encouragement to popery; and false systems of worship, against which our fathers manfully opposed themselves, imperiling even property and life, are fostered and cherished and encouraged to extend and gain wide influence. Protestants do not search their Bibles as they should, and do not heed the warning that has been given concerning the work of the man of sin. The Roman Church claims that the pope is invested with supreme authority over all bishops and pastors, and this claim of supremacy was once denied by Protestants. They took the position that the Bible, and the Bible alone, constituted the rule of faith and doctrine, that the word of God is the only unerring guide for human souls, and that it is unnecessary and harmful to take the words of priests and prelates instead of the word of God.

To the Romanist the Bible is a forbidden book, because it plainly reveals the errors of the Roman system; and whoever searches the Bible with an enlightened understanding, cannot long be in harmony with Romanism. He who searches the Bible to understand the truth, will find no authority in the word of God for the assumption of power on the part of popes and cardinals. There is no word of God that sanctions their assumed superiority or supremacy over their people, as there is no word to sanction the claim that Lucifer made in heaven of superiority over Christ. The claim of the Papacy to superiority is made under the influence of the first great usurper, who so persistently urged his right to supremacy over the host of God. Through the Dark Ages,—that long night of ignorance and superstition,—the claim of the Papacy to superiority and supremacy was conceded by emperors and kings, although God had sanctioned no such concession, and raised up men to dispute the claim, and to break the Romish yoke from the church of God. Through his appointed agencies God summoned the church to reassert her independence, and in the strength of God she stood forth in the liberty wherewith Christ had made her free. She broke away from the papal yoke, and with the word of God in her hand, met the giant evil of Romanism, even as David met Goliath in the name of heaven, using his sling and a few pebblestones. The defier of Israel was slain before the man of faith; and while men cling to the word of the Lord, they cannot affiliate with the great system of error.

The Lord has pronounced a curse upon those who take from or add to the Scriptures. The great I AM has decided what shall constitute the rule of faith and doctrine, and he has designed that the Bible shall be a household book. The church that holds to the word of God is irreconcilably separated from Rome. Protestants were once thus apart from this great church of apostasy, but they have approached more nearly to her, and are still in the path of reconciliation to the Church of Rome. Rome never changes. Her principles have not altered in the least. She has not lessened the breach between herself and Protestants; they have done all the advancing. But what does this argue for the Protestantism of this day? It is the rejection of Bible truth which makes men approach to infidelity. It is a backsliding church that lessens the distance between itself and the Papacy.

Pope Leo’s Easter message to the world: ‘Let those who have weapons lay them down!’

VATICAN CITY (RNS) — As wars intensify across the globe, Pope Leo XIV used his first Easter address to deliver a stark warning against growing indifference to violence, urging both world leaders and ordinary people to reject fear and choose peace through dialogue.

VATICAN CITY (RNS) – During his first Easter address on Sunday, Pope Leo XIV made an impassioned global appeal to end wars and embrace dialogue, following a series of celebrations leading up to Easter in which the pope emphasized the theme of peace.

“Let those who have weapons lay them down! Let those who have the power to unleash wars choose peace! Not a peace imposed by force, but through dialogue! Not with the desire to dominate others, but to encounter them!” Leo said in his Urbi et Orbi address, Latin for “to the city and to the world,” as 50,000 gathered in the square beneath him, according to Vatican News.

Recent popes have made the traditional Easter address an occasion to call out injustices and conflict in the world. Leo’s Holy Week celebrations, including a prayer vigil on Saturday to “make heard the cry for peace that springs from our hearts,” kept that focus — with added urgency as conflict escalates in the Middle East.

Trump Admin Signals Clarity on Church Speech

By Charlie McCarthy | Friday, 03 April 2026 12:23 PM EDT

The Trump administration announced Friday that it will "provide additional clarity and guidance" to religious organizations after a federal judge's decision this week to dismiss a case seeking to overturn the 70-year-old ban on political activity by houses of worship.

The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service issued a statement saying the move is aimed at reinforcing First Amendment protections while helping churches better understand how existing law applies to their communications.

"Religious liberty is foundational to our Constitution," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, adding that the administration is committed to ensuring Americans can "practice one's faith openly and in community" while laws are applied fairly.

The new guidance will focus on clarifying how the Johnson Amendment, the 1954 law that restricts tax-exempt organizations from endorsing political candidates, applies in real-world settings, particularly within religious services.

According to Treasury, internal communications between houses of worship and their congregations, when delivered through customary religious channels and tied to matters of faith, may not constitute prohibited political activity under current interpretations of the law.

‘Your hands are full of blood’: Pope Leo REBUKES Hegseth’s war prayers

Hegseth Says U.S. Troops Are Fighting for Jesus. The Pope Disagrees.

In sharp contrast to the Trump administration’s calls for Christian prayers for the war effort, Pope Leo XIV says military domination is “entirely foreign to the way of Jesus Christ.”

Reporting from Rome
April 3, 2026

Pete Hegseth, the U.S. defense secretary, has asked the American people to pray “every day, on bended knee” for a military victory in the Middle East “in the name of Jesus Christ.”

Pope Leo XIV, the first U.S.-born pontiff, has a starkly different take on what should be done in Jesus’s name.

In a homily during a Mass on Thursday morning before Easter, the pope said that the Christian mission has often been “distorted by a desire for domination, entirely foreign to the way of Jesus Christ.”

Since the United States and Israel began bombing Iran in late February, the pope has consistently called for an end to the violence and a return to dialogue to resolve the conflict. But without naming Mr. Hegseth, he has also pointed out the ways in which Christianity has been marshaled for purposes that the pope says do not align with Catholic teaching.

‘The Sim’ Returns: Georgetown Law Students Face National Security Crises in Simulation Exercise

During the simulation, students navigated fast-moving national security crises and honed their legal reasoning and leadership skills.

For the students who took part in this year’s National Security Crisis Law: Edge Technologies Simulation (“Sim”), time was of the essence. A foreign actor had attacked a U.S. satellite fleet — with potentially dire consequences. Gathered for a National Security Council meeting, the group had to weigh options such as diplomatic protest, trade sanctions and cyberattacks in deciding how to respond.

Eighteen Georgetown Law students took part in this year’s Sim, the most in-depth offering of its kind among law schools and the capstone experience for those studying national security law at Georgetown.

Part of a semester-long course taught by Center on National Security (CNS) Director and Professor Laura K. Donohue, the Sim last took place in 2020. After campus closures during the COVID-19 pandemic forced a pause, Donohue took the opportunity to revamp her playbook and incorporate many of the tech advances — including satellite weaponry, virtual reality, blockchain and artificial intelligence — that preoccupy today’s national security experts.

In their assigned roles as agency heads and other federal and intelligence officials, students worked long hours over March 13 and 14 and honed their legal judgment, decision-making and communication skills under conditions that replicated real-world structures and limitations — an experience not otherwise found in a law classroom or textbook.

Martyrdom: The secret shield protecting Iran from collapse

Iran’s strength lies in belief—martyrdom turns suffering into power, making war strengthen resolve instead of breaking the system from within

Understanding Iran's Resilience Amidst Conflict
  • Iran's identity is deeply rooted in Shia Islam, specifically the 1,400-year-old story of Imam Hussein's sacrifice at Karbala in 680 AD.
  • Shia belief teaches that suffering and dying for what is right is not defeat but a victory, a concept the Iranian government has used since 1979.
  • External attacks, such as missile strikes and leader killings, can inadvertently strengthen the Islamic Republic's narrative by validating its claims of oppression.

Impact of External Pressure
  • Demands for 'unconditional surrender' from the US, like those made by Donald Trump, are perceived by Iran as attempts to humiliate and erase them, turning even doubtful Iranians into defenders.
There is a war happening right now — America and Israel are attacking Iran with missiles, bombs, and strikes. Leaders have been killed. Buildings have been destroyed. And yet, something strange is happening. Instead of breaking down, many people inside Iran seem to be holding on even tighter to their beliefs. To understand why, we do not need to study military maps. We need to understand something much deeper — the power of faith, sacrifice, and what people believe they are fighting for.

This is the part that most news channels never explain to us.

An Ecumenism of the Trenches

Christians are called to unity, but not at the expense of truth. In a divided age, what does faithful unity actually require?

According to an article in Religion Unplugged, Roman Catholic officials are considering the Augsburg Confession as a basis for Christian unity. For those not up on their Church history, this was written in 1530 by Philip Melanchthon as a joint statement for Protestant leaders in Germany. The confession was rejected by the Emperor Charles V and the Vatican hierarchy, but it remains the fundamental doctrinal statement for Lutherans around the world and serves as a template for other Protestant confessions in the last five centuries.

The Vatican praising Augsburg is kind of like Pepsi telling customers to go try a Coke. A Jesuit scholar quoted in the article even said this,
Acknowledging the Reformation’s contributions and recognizing the Augsburg Confession as a paradigm for Christian unity would further the cause of mission and a unified Christian witness to a broken world that needs to hear the Gospel.”
Whether this move by the Vatican becomes more than just compliments, ecumenism has a complicated history. While most Christians recognize the need for greater unity, the devil is in the details. Bridge-building should never devolve into moral compromise or a denial of the Gospel.

Reps. Pramila Jayapal, et al Introduce Resolution Recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility

Reps. Pramila Jayapal, Sara Jacobs, Mark Takano, and Sen. Schatz Introduce Resolution Recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility

03.31.2026 | News

Washington, D.C. — Reps. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Sara Jacobs (CA-51), and Mark Takano (CA-39), and Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) introduced legislation to commemorate Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31st, recognize the many achievements and progress made by people in the transgender and gender non-conforming communities, and affirm their human rights.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Co-Chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force, said: “On Trans Day of Visibility, first and foremost, I stand with our trans loved ones. As Trump and Republicans continue their cruel and baseless attacks on the trans community, we must support our trans neighbors and work to protect their right to safety, respect, visibility, and equality under the law. Trans rights are human rights, and we must continue working to ensure that every person can live authentically as themselves. To trans people across this country: I see you, I hear you, and I will never stop fighting for you.”

Rep. Sara Jacobs, Co-Chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force, said: “Under an administration that constantly tries to make transgender and gender non-conforming people feel invisible, I am proud to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility. We cannot and will not let their hateful attacks steal our joy. To my trans friends and family, today is a day to celebrate being out, loud, and proud. And I will not stop until everyone can live freely and without fear of expressing their true selves.”

“As the transgender community continues to face attempts by the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress to erase their voices, their contributions, and their existence, I am proud to work with Congresswomen Sara Jacobs and Pramila Jayapal and Senator Brian Schatz in showing the trans community that we stand with them in the fight against erasure and censorship by anti-equality extremists,” said Rep. Mark Takano, Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus. “Transgender Day of Visibility celebrates visibility and is also an opportunity to inspire others as we work towards a United States where people of all gender identities are free to live openly and authentically. The full weight of the Congressional Equality Caucus stands behind the trans community, today and every day.”

“Trans people should be able to live freely, safely, and openly – just like everyone else. Instead, they continue to face discrimination and violence, both here at home and around the world,” said Senator Schatz. “International Transgender Day of Visibility is a chance to celebrate the trans community’s achievements and courage and renew our commitment to fighting for acceptance and equality.”

“Recognizing Trans Day of Visibility is about more than visibility—it’s about affirming that trans people belong,” said Caius Willingham, Senior Policy Analyst at Advocates for Trans Equality. “Thanks to the leadership of Congresswoman Jacobs, Senator Schatz, and Representatives Jayapal and Takano, this resolution makes clear that even in the face of growing attacks, our communities will continue to be seen, heard, and protected.”

Pope Leo Pushes Back Against Trump

The pontiff takes a quiet but firm stance against the former president's policies.

Mar. 21, 2026 at 12:54am

In a surprising move, Pope Leo has been quietly but firmly pushing back against the policies and rhetoric of former U.S. President Donald Trump. The pontiff has used his moral authority and global platform to criticize Trump's divisive approach to immigration, his skepticism of climate change, and his antagonistic relationship with traditional U.S. allies.

Why it matters

As a highly influential global leader, Pope Leo's stance against Trump's policies carries significant weight, especially among Catholics and other religious communities. This clash between the spiritual and political realms highlights the Pope's willingness to take a principled stand on issues he deems morally important, even when it means challenging a former U.S. president.

The details

Pope Leo has used various channels to voice his disagreement with Trump, including speeches, interviews, and direct communications with the White House. While avoiding direct personal attacks, the Pope has criticized Trump's hardline immigration policies, his dismissal of climate change, and his antagonistic approach to long-standing U.S. alliances. This quiet but firm pushback has created tension between the Vatican and the former administration.

  • Pope Leo was elected as the 267th Pope in 2020.
  • Trump served as the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021.

Cuba Reportedly Pleads With Vatican To Get The US Off Its Back As Energy Crisis Grows

Cuban officials have reportedly petitioned the Vatican to advocate for the island nation in an effort to maintain power and secure aid as the communist country struggles amid an energy crisis.

The crisis, which has resulted in rolling blackouts, arose following a late January executive order characterizing Cuba as an “unusual and extraordinary threat” and imposing a tariff on any country that provides or sells oil to Cuba.

In the two months since the de facto oil blockade was put into place, the Cuban government has conducted senior-level meetings with Holy See officials — including the pope — in the hopes that they would function as an interlocutor between Cuba and the U.S., according to The Washington Post (Post).

On Feb. 20, the senior diplomat at the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Mike Hammer, and the U.S. ambassador to the Holy See, Brian Burch, held meetings with Latin American ambassadors to the Vatican, according to the Post.

They spoke of “how to work with the Church to support the Cuban people’s desire for economic opportunity and freedom,” the outlet reported. The U.S. diplomats reportedly also met with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

Hammer told the Latin American Church diplomats that Cuba’s regime would fall “in a matter of days,” a person familiar told the outlet.

Hammer and Burch also held a meeting with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin. A source familiar with the conversation said the Vatican hopes for a resolution that is “not as traumatic” as Trump’s arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Red sky seen in WA ahead of Cyclone Narelle makes global headlines

Scenes of an eerie, blood-red sky cast over the Western Australian landscape ahead of Tropical Cyclone Narelle have made worldwide news.

As the cyclone made its way to the West Australian coast on Friday, residents of Shark Bay — about 500 kilometres south of Exmouth, where the cyclone made landfall — saw an apocalyptic-like scene, as the thick dust coated the air.

Kerrie Shepherd, from the Shark Bay Caravan Park, said she had never seen anything like it.

"The skies just kept getting more and more orange as the afternoon went on and then, at about 3:30pm, we went outside and it was that colour," she said.

"It was red all the way along, everywhere we looked.

"It got into your throat and into your mouth. It was crunchy and gritty in your teeth, even in your eyes."

Religious Liberty and the Division Principle (Tim Rumsey)

God’s children are to separate themselves from politics, from any alliance with unbelievers

The Lord would have His people bury political questions. On these themes silence is eloquence. Christ calls upon His followers to come into unity on the pure gospel principles which are plainly revealed in the word of God.

We cannot with safety vote for political parties; for we do not know whom we are voting for. We cannot with safety take part in any political scheme.

Those who are Christians indeed will be branches of the true vine, and will bear the same fruit as the vine. They will act in harmony, in Christian fellowship. They will not wear political badges, but the badge of Christ.

What are we to do, then?—Let political questions alone.

There is a large vineyard to be cultivated; but while Christians are to work among unbelievers, they are not to appear like worldlings. They are not to spend their time talking politics or acting politics; for by so doing they give the enemy opportunity to come in and cause variance and discord.

God’s children are to separate themselves from politics, from any alliance with unbelievers.

Do not take part in political strife. Separate from the world, and refrain from bringing into the church or school ideas that will lead to contention and disorder. Dissension is the moral poison taken into the system by human beings who are selfish.

Fellow Dems call for Cherfilus-McCormick to resign or be expelled

A growing number of House Democrats are calling on Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) to resign after the House Ethics Committee found her guilty of dozens of charges, including serious financial misconduct.

Why it matters: Some of those lawmakers said they are at least open to voting to expel the Florida Democrat, creating substantial new pressure for her to be ousted from Congress by one means or another.

  • Cherfilus-McCormick, who is also under federal indictment, said in a statement Friday: "I look forward to proving my innocence. Until then, my focus remains where it belongs: showing up for the great people of Florida's 20th District who sent me to Washington to fight for them."
  • The Ethics Committee is set to meet when the House returns in mid-April to vote on recommending punitive action, which could include fines, censure, or expulsion.

By the numbers: More than half a dozen House Democrats said they think Cherfilus-McCormick should resign after the panel said Friday morning they found 25 of the 27 charges against her were "proven by clear and convincing evidence.

Global Prayer for Peace in the Middle East

Pray for ‘freedom in Christ, freedom of religion’ in Iran

March 11, 2026 By Benjamin Hawkins

Benjamin Hawkins, editor of The Pathway

Missouri Baptist and Southern Baptist leaders alike have called for prayer amid rising conflicts in the Middle East. God has been moving in Iran for many years, and He is continuing to work for the salvation of men and women in the region.

Last year, as tensions with Iran began to rise, I spoke with my friend Ayman Ibrahim, who serves as a professor of Islamic Studies at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Christianity is expanding in the region, he told me.

“I know that Christians are growing in number in Iran, but we have no real significant statistics,” he said. “We don’t know if it is 5 million,”—a high estimate according to some—”or more, or less. I don’t know. However, we know that Muslims in Iran are abandoning Islam in droves. Some of those … are running to Christ. There is no doubt about that. And I know that the church in Iran, even if it’s persecuted and it’s marginalized, they are doing a very good job.”

Screenshot of IMB map

In 2022, Ibrahim wrote an article for The Gospel Coalition that may help us get a picture of the spiritual state in Iran—and, potentially, of the opportunity for gospel impact in the region:

“Consider Iran’s Muslims: In September 2020, findings from an academic study of Iran’s secular shift appeared in The Conversation. Droves of Iranians are abandoning Islam. While Iran’s official census claims 99.5 percent of the population is Muslim, the survey found only 40 percent of Iranians identified as Muslim. If true, this suggests Iran may no longer be a Muslim-majority country.”

Today's Show: SLEEPER CELLS IN THE USA

Chris discusses the reports of sleeper cells in the USA and how they may choose to launch attacks on citizens in retaliation for the war in Iran. The sleeper agents are said to be the result of illegal immigration during the Biden administration, and even before. This warning happens in conjunction with an identical alert given by Nigel Farage in the United Kingdom, where several terror attacks have already taken place. The agents are said to be special operators from Iran and could, in theory, be anywhere. They could also be from other Islamic countries, working as part of the International Jihad against the West. In the Bible, God charges the watchman over a city to keep watch and to sound the alarm if an enemy is seen approaching. But what happens when government officials choose to ignore the warnings?

'Dr. Doom' Nouriel Roubini Warns Trump May Escalate Iran War: 'If HeChickens Out Right Now...'

March 28, 2026 1:43 AM

by Ananya Gairola Benzinga Staff Writer

On Friday, Nouriel Roubini, the economist who called the 2008 financial crisis, cautioned that President Donald Trump is more likely to intensify the U.S. conflict with Iran rather than seek a quick resolution.

Trump May Choose Escalation Over Ceasefire

Roubini dismissed the notion that Trump is searching for an "off-ramp" to end the war, despite market optimism around a potential peace deal, he told CNBC at the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio, Italy.

"If he chickens out right now, he loses credibility. He lost the war," Roubini said, adding that such a move could hurt Trump's chances in upcoming elections.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A prominent leader for advocacy group Migrant Justice has pleaded not guilty to federal human smuggling charges after his arrest early Thursday.

A large crowd of supporters gathered outside the courthouse during Thursday afternoon’s hearing for Jose Ignacio De La Cruz De La Rosa, 30, also known as Nacho, who was arrested on Thursday morning on his way to work at a construction site.

It comes after he was detained last summer near the border in Richford with his stepdaughter. Federal authorities said De La Rosa allegedly helped people cross the border and helped settle them in the United States.

Court records show De La Rosa allegedly participated in a multiyear conspiracy to bring illegal immigrants into the U.S. He’s also accused of producing fraudulent identity documents, including driver’s privilege cards, a form of state ID available to migrants. Court records indicate he got $500 for every card he provided. He’s also accused of taking learner’s privilege driver tests for other people.

The world-wide dissemination of the same teachings that led to the French Revolution

At the same time anarchy is seeking to sweep away all law, not only divine, but human. The centralizing of wealth and power; the vast combinations for the enriching of the few at the expense of the many; the combinations of the poorer classes for the defense of their interests and claims; the spirit of unrest, of riot and bloodshed; the world-wide dissemination of the same teachings that led to the French Revolution—all are tending to involve the whole world in a struggle similar to that which convulsed France.

A U.S. Secret Service (USS) agent assigned to former First Lady Jill Biden’s protective detail accidentally shot himself in the leg by mishandling his weapon, the agency said.

Biden was not near the incident Friday morning when an on‑duty Secret Service agent accidentally shot himself in the leg while assigned to escort the former first lady at Philadelphia International Airport, the USS confirmed to the Daily Caller.

The agent “suffered a non-life-threatening injury following a negligent discharge while handling a service weapon at the Philadelphia International Airport during a protective assignment,” the Secret Service said in a statement to the Caller. “There were no reported injuries to any other individuals and the special agent is being evaluated at an area hospital in stable condition.”

The Philadelphia Police Department said emergency medical personnel took the agent to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition, according to ABC News.

The department said the scene remains under investigation, but airport operations have not been affected.

The Secret Service’s Office of Professional Responsibility “will be reviewing the facts and circumstances of this incident,” the agency told the Caller.

Are Plantains Healthy? Dietitian Discusses Carbs, Sugar and Other Nutrients

Story by Aryelle Siclait

Unripe, plantains are savory and starchy, then, as they transition from green to yellow, speckled with dots, they soften into their sweetest and silkiest form. This healthy fruit is as dynamic as it is delicious.

While you might be inclined to shy away given their sugar content, you’d be missing out on a tasty nutrient boost that can enhance any dish, experts say.

“Plantains are a nutritious choice and a good way to boost intake of fiber, potassium and overall carbohydrates,” Erin Palinski-Wade, registered dietitian and author, tells TODAY.com. The natural sugars in them, which the body is designed to eat, are accompanied by loads of antioxidants and vitamins that’ll fortify you in more ways than one.

Often baked, boiled or fried, in any stage of ripeness, plantains are the starchy powerhouse capable of packing a savory, sweet, crunchy or supple punch. Discover their many benefits and why they’re always worth stocking in your pantry.

Senate Votes to Fund Most of D.H.S. in Bid to End Partial Shutdown

The bill excludes funding for ICE and the Border Patrol but restores it for federal airport security workers. The House could consider the package on Friday.

The Senate voted early Friday to fund the Department of Homeland Security except for its immigration enforcement and deportation operations, raising the prospect of an end to a weekslong partial shutdown that has strained federal workers and caused long waits at airports.

The measure does not include funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement or the Border Patrol, in effect reflecting a proposal that Democrats had offered for weeks as they refused to fund federal immigration enforcement operations without adding new restrictions on agents.

“Senate Democrats were clear: no blank check for a lawless ICE and Border Patrol,” Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York and the majority leader, said after the measure passed.

The bill must still be considered by the House, which could vote on it as soon as Friday. It was unclear whether the measure would pass that chamber, where Speaker Mike Johnson holds a narrow Republican majority. A number of hard-right Republicans have criticized the Senate’s approach and oppose a funding bill that does not include money for immigration enforcement.

Should the House approve the measure and President Trump sign it, the deal would end a negotiating standoff that caused the longest partial government shutdown on record.

The Senate’s agreement, which it passed in a voice vote at around 2:20 a.m., came hours after Mr. Trump said that he would direct the homeland security secretary to pay Transportation Security Administration agents, who have worked without pay since funding for the department lapsed on Feb. 14.

Watching Abu Ali Hamiyeh use a stone to hammer the nails that will hold together the wooden planks of his new house on a corner of Beirut’s waterfront, you’d never guess that just a few months ago, Pope Leo XIV passed by that very spot.

At a special Mass nearby that day, the Holy Father called on Lebanese like Hamiyeh to be “builders of peace.”

“The path of mutual hostility and destruction in the horror of war has gone too far, with the deplorable results that are plain for all to see,” said Leo on Dec. 2, not knowing that a few weeks later, the country would be caught up in the largest war the region has seen so far this century.

“We need to change course; we need to educate our hearts for peace,” he urged.

Hamiyeh is one of those displaced by this conflict. A Muslim, he comes from the Bekaa Valley, a stronghold of Hezbollah, an Islamist militant group with which he sympathizes. He, like a million of his compatriots, has had to abandon his home due to evacuation orders from the Israeli army.

No one wants to speak to the press, except Hamiyeh. The day is Friday, March 20, and he speaks with me as he patches together a wooden shack covered with a blue tarp and a thatched roof. He pulls over a plastic trash can and invites me to sit down so we can talk more comfortably.

“Here with us there are Syrians, Palestinians, Jordanians, Turks, Sri Lankans, etc. … Everyone is here. We will not leave this place unless we achieve a great victory. We fought against them for 66 days; we gave martyrs!”

“The Bekaa Valley is the bastion of the resistance; we have given martyrs and blood, and our children, and we remain steadfast on this path of resistance — and we will give even more. Hezbollah is the victorious faction, according to the Quran. Without a doubt, they are victorious,” he says with great conviction.

Hamiyeh regrets not being able to offer me coffee and show me some of that legendary Arab hospitality.

Little by little, the coastline is turning into a refugee camp. No one knows when they will be able to return to their homes, or if there are any homes left to return to.

We are (still) making the Chaplain Corps Great Again.

Will U.S. stop it? Russian tanker with desperately needed oil closes in on Cuba

A Russian oil tanker carrying hundreds of thousands of barrels of crude is steadily approaching Cuba, setting up a high-stakes test of Washington’s willingness to enforce its tightening energy embargo on the island as it grapples with a deepening fuel crisis.

Jorge Piñón, an energy expert at the University of Texas at Austin, said the vessel — the Anatoly Kolodkin — appears to be maintaining a steady course toward Cuba.

“This morning — when I checked it; I haven’t checked it just now — it was en route to Cuba. It is maintaining a speed of roughly 12 knots,” Piñón said. “I imagine it should arrive sometime within the next six days. However, for the moment, it hasn’t changed either its direction or its speed.”

Ferrying an estimated 700,000 to 730,000 barrels of Russian crude across the Atlantic, the tanker is widely believed by analysts to be heading for the Cuban port of Matanzas, despite broadcasting a misleading destination.

Its approach comes at a moment of heightened geopolitical tension, as the United States seeks to tighten pressure on Havana while managing global energy disruptions triggered by conflict in Iran and ongoing confrontations with Russia.LL

March 25 (UPI) -- Sarah Elisabeth Mullally was installed Wednesday as the first woman to hold the title of archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of the Church of England and the Anglican Communion.

Mullally, 63, is the 106th person to hold the title of the most senior cleric in the Church of England and spiritual leader of the Anglican Communion, which includes some 85 million Anglicans around the world. And she is the only one who isn't a man.

In her first sermon as archbishop, she honored victims of church abuse.

"We hold victims and survivors in our hearts and in our prayers, and we must remain committed to truth, compassion, justice and action," she said.

"In a world already torn by conflict, suffering and division, we must also acknowledge the hurt that exists much closer to home," she said. "We must not overlook or minimize the pain experienced by those who have been harmed through the actions, inactions or failures of those in our own Christian churches and communities."

About 2,000 invited guests attended the ceremonial installment, which is historically called an enthronement, including William, prince of Wales, and Kate Middleton, princess of Wales. Prime Minister Keir Starmer was also there. Also in the congregation was a contingent of nurses and caregivers from Canterbury to honor Mullally's former career as a nurse.

While Mullally has served in the position since January, the Wednesday's ceremony marks the symbolic beginning of her service as the archbishop. She was named to the position in October.

TSA employees at ‘breaking point’

Union representatives for TSA also blasted the Trump administration's deployment of ICE officers to airports, calling it a "straight-up distraction."

Transportation Security Administration employees say they are at a “breaking point” with TSA staff preparing to miss a third paycheck this week, as employee unions again push for legislation that would ensure federal workers get paid during a shutdown.

The ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown stretched to its 39th day on Tuesday. More than 400 TSA employees have left the agency during the shutdown, while thousands more have started calling out of work, leading to long security screening lines at some airports.

The Trump administration has now deployed Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to airports to nominally help bolster TSA’s ranks. ICE agents are being paid during the shutdown due to funding the agency received in last year’s tax and reconciliation bill.

But union representatives for TSA’s transportation security officers say ICE has done little to help with the situation.

Rome In America – God’sWord Against Romanism.

March 10, 2026

And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

Continued from Is Romanism Good Enough For Romanists? Part 2.

GOD’S WORD AGAINST ROMANISM.

“Blessed are they that hear the Word of God and keep it.”
 Luke 11:28.

If the Word of God is against Romanism, its doom is written, and its overthrow and extinction approach.

When the king of Babylon saw the handwriting on the wall, the King’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

“What does it mean?” cried the king. “Bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers.” They came. And the king said to the wise men of Babylon: “Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler of the kingdom.” God had spoken; the King felt that it meant something to him and to his people. He must find out the meaning of the mystical characters. The wise men could not read the writing. This troubled the king.

The queen thought of Daniel, and he was brought forth. A man who could interpret God’s Word was of value then. He is of value now. Though the words mene, mene, tekel, upharsin, told that God had numbered the kingdom and finished it, that the king had been weighed in the balances and found wanting, and that his kingdom was divided, he commanded that Daniel be rewarded for his exposition of the Word of God; and so he clothed him with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler of the kingdom.

Is it of less consequence that we study the teachings of the Word of God concerning Romanism? We know that the Old World was destroyed by the flood, which was foretold of Noah, that Sodom and Gomorrah were burned, in accordance with the warning of the angel; that the mightiest kingdoms have been overthrown, and the most magnificent cities have gone down before an edict of God. Nothing can withstand or successfully head an Almighty “shall.” This history declares.

The Word of God is more than a book. It is God’s embattled host, always on the field, ever on the alert, ready to be wheeled into action at a moment’s notice. There is no break in the line; no weakness in the column. Death has not thinned its ranks. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, though relieved from their watch here, are still doing yeoman service, though on another part of the field. They did not die. They simply passed into the visible presence of the Commander in-Chief. The dead are with the Lord and us. The Lord is with the living and the dead. The man with the Bible enjoys the society of patriarchs, prophets, and Apostles. Paul is still with us. His voice rolls out louder, clearer than when he declared, “I am ready to preach the Gospel to you that are at Rome also, for I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew first, and also the Gentile. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed, from faith to faith, as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” The words of the Apostle seem as if written for us. They are as brave and more defiant than when he wore the chain at Rome.

A Call to Welcome: Archbishop Moth visits Jesuit Refugee Service

Eileen Cole
Mar 24th, 2026

Archbishop Richard Moth today highlighted the Catholic Church's commitment to welcoming and supporting people seeking sanctuary in the UK, during a visit to Jesuit Refugee Service UK (JRS UK).

At the Hurtado Jesuit Centre, in the Archdiocese of Westminster, the Archbishop met refugees served by JRS UK, as well as volunteers and staff providing accompaniment, advice and practical support.

Archbishop Richard said: "The root of the call of the Gospel to welcome the stranger is that recognition of the value of the human person, which comes from recognizing that God is present in everyone, and keeping ourselves rooted in that space is so important. If we lose touch with that, then people become numbers, they become statistics. We lose sight of the value of that human person for who they are. So that welcome is a key part of the Gospel.

Jesus says we're going to be judged on it and so making that welcome available to all is absolutely key. JRS UK lives that out so clearly and is a sign to the society in which we live of what all of us are called to do.

Bibles: Dangerous, Illegal, Covert

April 20, 2019 By lovepackages

Voice of the Martyrs recently published a world map that highlights the most difficult places to own or bring a bible. VOM is working hard to get bibles into these countries, and we are honored to be working toward the same goal.

There are many other ministries printing, shipping, smuggling, and carrying God’s word into these places as well. There are almost as many different strategies as there are ministries, and it’s breathtaking to consider how the Lord orchestrates his plans: One ministry prints, another uses cutting edge digital technology, another collects and recycles discarded material.

And you’re invited into the work as well. Pray for the work, learn how to collect material for us to ship, and/or donate toward the shipping costs.

VOM’s map is a stunning visual of the great need for truth.

Is the Bible Illegal in 52 Countries?

You may have heard that the bible is illegal in 52 countries. It gets printed on t-shirts and stitched on bible covers.

“Illegal” may not be strictly true, but it might as well be in most of these places. The Voice of the Martyrs map categorizes countries where bibles are (1) difficult/dangerous to obtain, (2) illegal or highly restricted, and (3) strictly illegal and only available through covert smuggling.

The map was in their last newsletter, but you can also see it on their website.
