Ruby Zavala, 14, was abducted from church Sunday afternoon.
A Texas teenager was abducted at knifepoint from church by an ex-boyfriend who was "obsessed" with her, police say.
Ruby Zavala, 14, along with her mother and sister, were taken from the parking lot of Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant at around 1 p.m. Sunday, the Daily Tribune reported.
Police believe the abductor is 22-year-old Jesus Ramirez, who formerly dated Zavala in secret. Ramirez allegedly used the mother's truck to take the three hostages to a residence where he released Zavala's mother and sister. He then fled with Zavala.
Mount Pleasant Police Chief Wayne Isbell said that after Zavala's parents found out about her relationship with Ramirez in March, they forced the two to break up. Ramirez was charged with sexual assault of a child at the time, WFAA reported.
"We believe [Ramirez] is still unstable," Isbell said, according to ABC. "He may be delusional. He's obsessed with the girl."
The truck was found abandoned and hidden in the woods eight miles west of Mount Pleasant, but authorities are still searching for Zavala. Due to the way the vehicle was hidden, officers believe that another person may have picked up the pair, and could be hiding them.
On Sunday evening, The Texas Department of Public Safety issued an Amber Alert for Zavala.
