Save the Date (European Sunday Alliance)

Tuesday 15 November 2016, 09h00 – 16h00

European Parliament, Brussels

The European Sunday Alliance (ESA) is organising a conference on “Work-Life-Balance 4.0 – Challenges in time of digitalisation”, which will take place on 15 November 2016 in the European Parliament in Brussels. The conference will be hosted by MEP Evelyn Regner (S&D) and MEP Thomas Mann (EPP).

This bigger event follows a series of EP interest group debates that the ESA members have organised during the last two years on the issue of work-life balance.

Society, labour markets, and workplaces are expected to undergo fundamental transformations as a consequence of digitalisation. The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Junker, has defined the Digital Agenda as one of its ten priorities. Moreover, the last “Davos” meeting of the World Economic Forum, as well as the previous OECD Labour and Employment Ministerial Meeting in January 2016 focussed on this structural shift in the world of work/in the labour market this development.
Therefore, the European Sunday Alliance invites its members and supporters to discuss with representatives of the EU institutions and experts the impact of digitalisation on work-life-balance. The conference will address this topic from two different though complementary angles:

  • work organisation, flexibilisation of working time and new forms of employment,
  • the protection of private and family life, including Sunday, the freedom of synchronized free time and the opportunity of voluntary engagement.

The conference will also offer the opportunity to meet the different actors of the European Sunday Alliance and to exchange views on the regional, national and European activities of our Alliance.

Please save the date already.

More information, the programme and the registration form will be sent to you after the summer break.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Brussels.

University of Florida researchers have identified a patient in Haiti with a serious mosquito-borne illness that has never before been reported in the Caribbean nation.

Known as "Mayaro virus," it is closely related to chikungunya virus and was first isolated in Trinidad in 1954. Most reported cases, however, have been confined to small outbreaks in the Amazon. Whether this case signals the start of a new outbreak in the Caribbean region is currently unknown.

"While current attention has been focused on the Zika virus, the finding of yet another mosquito-borne virus which may be starting to circulate in the Caribbean is of concern," said Glenn Morris, M.D., M.P.H., director of the UF Emerging Pathogens Institute. "Hopefully we will not see the same massive epidemics that we saw with chikungunya, dengue and now Zika. However, these findings underscore the fact that there are additional viruses 'waiting in the wings' that may pose threats in the future, and for which we need to be watching."

The case was identified from a blood sample taken in January 2015 from an 8-year-old boy in rural Haiti. The patient had a fever and abdominal pain but no rash or conjunctivitis. Because faculty from the UF Emerging Pathogens Institute were in the region during and after the 2014 chikungunya outbreak, plasma samples were obtained from febrile children and analyzed for the presence of chikungunya virus RNA using a genetic identification technique known as reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.

The plasma samples, which were examined by UF's Maha Elbadry, Ph.D., in Gressier, Haiti, were then sent to EPI for additional virology and molecular analyses, focusing on the detection of chikungunya, dengue and Zika viruses. Dengue virus was detected in the patient, in addition to a "new" virus that was subsequently identified as Mayaro.

"The virus we detected is genetically different from the ones that have been described recently in Brazil, and we don't know yet if it is unique to Haiti or if it is a recombinant strain from different types of Mayaro viruses," said John Lednicky, Ph.D., an associate professor in the environmental and global health department at the UF College of Public Health and Health Professions and the study's lead author.

The findings were published online Aug. 26 in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's journal Emerging Infectious Diseases.

The symptoms of Mayaro fever are similar to those of chikungunya fever: fever, joint pain, muscle pain and rashes. Abdominal pain is also a feature of Mayaro fever, however, and joint pain can last longer.

Russia Accuses US Of Defending ISIS, After Pentagon Admits Coalition Jets Killed 62 Syrian Soldiers

by Tyler Durden

Update 4: The Obama administration officially expressed it's "regret" for an airstrike that killed Syrian forces with a senior White House official saying "The United States has relayed our regret through the Russian Federation for the unintentional loss of life of Syrian forces."

Meanwhile, the U.S. UN envoy called Russia's request for an emergency Security Council meeting a "stunt."

Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin responded by saying that the U.S. airstrike that struck Syrian government troops has put "a very big question mark" over the future of the U.S. and Russian-brokered cease-fire agreement in Syria adding that in his decades as a diplomat he had"never seen such an extraordinary display of American heavy-handedness as we are witnessing today."

* * *

Update 3: Russia's foreign ministry says it has "reached the terrifying conclusion" that the US is conniving with the Islamic State. As ABC reports, Russia has called for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council over a U.S. air raid that it says struck Syrian troops battling the Islamic State group. Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova says Moscow is demanding "full and detailed explanations about whether this was deliberate support of the Islamic State or another mistake."

Zakharova was quoted by the state news agency Tass as saying that "after today's attack on the Syrian army, we come to the terrible conclusion that the White House is defending the Islamic State."

The U.S. military says it halted an air raid against IS in eastern Syria after it was informed by Russia that it might have struck Syrian troops. If confirmed, it would be the first American strike on President Bashar Assad's forces in the five-year-old conflict. The allegations come as Moscow and Washington are already at loggerheads over a five-day-old Syrian cease-fire, with each accusing the other of failing to fully implement it.

It appears this major diplomatic scandal is only starting to play out.

It may just be me, but my perception is that Sundays in our culture seem different now than say 30 or 40 years ago. Do you agree? When I was growing up back in the ‘70s, Sundays were a day different from the other six. Sunday used to be a lazy day. You didn’t have a big agenda.

But today, it is getting harder and harder to distinguish Sundays from other days of the week. Sundays have become days of rush and busyness, often as much as Monday through Saturday and sometimes even more. The pace of our 21st-century world has definitely increased, but I think many of us are missing something that is in fact “vital” to our life and well-being as humans. I think we are missing Sabbath.

If you know your 10 commandments, “Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy” is No. 4.

It is the longest of the commandments. God has more to say about it than murder or adultery or any of the other commands. But it is a command that the church in America has largely neglected. Sabbath is a blessing and a gift. Jesus said it himself that the Sabbath was “made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27). So what is the Sabbath?

First, it is a day that we stop working. The word Sabbath literally means to cease. Work is a good thing. Scripture tells us to work and that work is a way to glorify God. But God has given us a pattern and a rhythm to follow: We work for six days, then we stop working for a day. We stop trying to accomplish and get things done, and instead pursue only activities that are enjoyable, freeing and not undertaken for the purpose of accomplishment.

Why is stopping work important? Because it brings perspective — that we are more than our work. Existence is more than work.

Second, it is a day that we rest. If I were to say to you, I want to give you one day a week where you can just rest, doesn’t that sound good? Would that be good for your family? That’s the gift God has given us. God set up this model when He created the world — resting on the seventh day. God himself doesn’t need rest, but He has built into each of us a need for rest.

What is rest? Resting is not just physical, it is emotional, intellectual and spiritual rest. Rest that restores our frazzled emotions, our tired minds, our weary spirit. Rest is any activity where you can take your time and go at your own pace. It’s nothing you need to accomplish, rather something you enjoy.

The key is you have no agenda. You aren’t run by the clock. You are not doing it because it has to get done. You are supposed to be resting! Sounds good, doesn’t it? The amazing thing is that this is what God commands us to do. Rest!

Third, it is a day we set aside to focus on the Lord. Most Christians celebrate the Sabbath on Sunday. Do you know why? Sunday is the day Jesus rose from the dead. He was put to death on Friday and rose from the dead on Sunday. His resurrection is the basis for our entire Christian faith. As Christians, we have taken the fourth commandment — to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy — and combined it with a celebration of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

Sabbath is more than just stopping work and resting. The Sabbath is a day set aside to focus on the Lord and worship Him. Worship helps us regain perspective about what is really important — remembering who God is and our complete need for Him. We remember again His grace and that all of our life comes from Him.

This command to keep the Sabbath is a real challenge to follow in our culture today. Stores are open seven days a week and the prevailing assumption more and more is that Sunday is the same as Saturday.

If you are going to get serious about this fourth commandment, you are going to have to be counter-cultural and go against the flow. It is something that you will have to think about, plan for, and pray about.

But I want to challenge you to take this command seriously. You need a day to stop working. You need a day to rest. You need a day to focus on the Lord as a family. Do this for your own benefit! The Sabbath was made for you!

The Seventh Day of the week is The Sabbath.  It's not Sunday.
The Seventh Day Sabbath is a perpetual reminder of 'Who' created humanity and the Universe.

Top 10 Scandals / Conspiracies about the Vatican Mark of the Beast

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free ”

Doing for Christ

Chapter 2

From what has been shown me, Sabbathkeepers are growing more selfish as they increase in riches. Their love for Christ and His people is decreasing. They do not see the wants of the needy, nor feel their sufferings and sorrows. They do not realize that in neglecting the poor and the suffering they neglect Christ, and that in relieving the wants and sufferings of the poor as far as possible, they minister to Jesus.

Christ says to His redeemed people: “Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was an hungered, and ye gave Me meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took Me in: naked, and ye clothed Me: I was sick, and ye visited Me: I was in prison, and ye came unto Me.

“Then shall the righteous answer Him, saying, Lord, when saw we Thee an hungered, and fed Thee? or thirsty, and gave Thee drink? When saw we Thee a stranger, and took Thee in? or naked, and clothed Thee? Or when saw we Thee sick, or in prison, and came unto Thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me.”

ORDER OUT OF CHAOS -- Bill Hughes

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

8 Come, behold the works of theLord, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Univision Anchor’s Electioneering Sparks 'Ramos Must Go' Drive

Univision Anchor’s Electioneering Sparks 'Ramos Must Go' Drive

By MRC Latino Staff | September 14, 2016 | 10:15 AM EDT

In reaction to Univision chief news anchor Jorge Ramos’ repeated statements in the media opposing the election of Donald Trump, an effort is underway to both highlight Ramos’ compromised coverage of the election, as well as bring pressure to bear on Univision to remove Ramos from the network’s news anchor desk between now and Election Day.

The Media Research Center (MRC)-led campaign, titled Ramos Must Go!includes both grasstops and grassroots components. At the grasstops level, the MRC announced that over 15 respected Latino community figures in media and public policy have issued a joint “Call for Corrective Action at Univision.”

The statement faults Ramos for crossing “a significant line in his coverage” of the presidential campaign by his decision to break with established journalistic election coverage norms and openly oppose the election of Trump.

“The issue created by Ramos’ action as Univision’s lead news anchor has nothing to do with the relative merits of Donald Trump as a presidential candidate,” say the statement’s signers. When it comes to elections, the group of Latino leaders holds that “journalists have a responsibility to report on them with as much impartiality, independence and fairness as they can possibly muster…it is certainly not the job of journalists to tell citizens either who to vote against or who to vote for.”

Thank you for your support!

The signers go on to invoke “the interests of both Univision’s audience and the capacity of the network itself to serve as an impartial and credible source of news” in calling on Univision to remove Ramos from his duties as the network's nightly news anchor until after Election Day.

The statement’s initial signers include:

Richard Aguilar, Publisher, Latino American Today

Bertica Cabrera Morris, Former Administrator, Orange County, Florida Public Schools

Adolfo Castaneda, Director of Hispanic Education, Human Life International

Sergio de la Peña, Ret. Col., U.S. Army and political analyst

Mario Díaz, General Counsel, Concerned Women for America

Rey Flores, Grassroots Programs Coordinator, The Leadership Institute

Irene García, Editor, Judicial Watch

J.D. Gordon, Executive Director, Protect America Today

Yuri Pérez, Latin America Human Rights Activist

Jason I. Poblete, Esq., Former Senior Congressional Staff

Gus Portela, Executive Director, College Republican National Committee

In addition to the grasstops petition, thewww.ramosmustgo.com website includes an online grassroots petition page where the public can register their agreement that “Ramos has rendered himself incapable of serving as a credible, impartial news anchor for Univision’s millions of viewers.” The grassroots effort also includes a phone-in campaign to Univision President Randy Falco, to tell him that “Ramos must go!”

The website also features a video in which MRC President Brent Bozell issues an as yet unanswered challenge to Ramos to a debate about the “role of journalists in a free society.” “His abuse of journalism is flat out indefensible,” Bozell says in the video. Previously, Bozell stated “If Jorge Ramos has any sense left of professional integrity, he should tender his resignation and pursue his new passion, as an anti-Trump, pro-Clinton political activist.”

Ramos recently called the prospect of Trump’s election “a bad dream” and has unequivocally declared that “America is facing a serious threat in Trump.” He also called the first general election television ad of the Republican presidential candidate a “xenophobic and anti-immigrant ad.”

Earlier in the election cycle, Ramos also told his viewers that “Cruz and Rubio had a chance to be our community’s heroes, but instead they decided they wanted to be like the villain.”

CALL FOR CORRECTIVE ACTION AT UNIVISION

Jorge Ramos, the veteran anchorman of Univision's principal nightly news program, recently decided to cross a significant line in his coverage of the 2016 presidential campaign. Specifically, Ramos has decided to break with established journalistic election coverage norms, and is now openly opposing the election of Donald Trump.

The issue created by Ramos' action as Univision's lead news anchor has nothing to do with the relative merits of Donald Trump as a presidential candidate, but everything to do with the unprofessional precedent Jorge Ramos is attempting to set for journalists and how they cover electoral politics.

Elections are matters of utmost public importance. Journalists have a responsibility to report on them with as much impartiality, independence and fairness as they can possibly muster. At the end of the day, it is up to an honestly informed electorate to make their own decisions about the relative merits of the candidates and who they wish to vote for.

It is the duty of journalists to help voters in this process, through accurate, comprehensive and unaligned reporting. It is certainly not the job of journalists to tell citizens either who to vote against or who to vote for. Yet, as has been repeatedly documented in recent weeks by the Media Research Center, Univision's Jorge Ramos is deliberately doing exactly that, and continues to do so. This situation merits swift corrective action.

In support of the interests of both Univision’s audience and the capacity of the network itself to serve as an impartial and credible source of news, we the undersigned therefore respectfully call on Univision to remove Jorge Ramos, effective immediately, from his duties as the network's nightly news anchor from now through Election Day, November 8, 2016.

Cuban invasion: Immigration highest ever, deportations lowest

Cuban invasion: Immigration highest ever, deportations lowest:

Illegal border crossings by Cubans has surpassed last year's record at the same time deportations are at an all-time low, a poisonous formula that is making the United States a huge magnet for even higher levels of immigration from the communist island, according to a new report. Cuban immigration has hit 46,635, breaching last year's ceiling of 43,154, according to the authoritative Center for Immigration Studies. Under U.S. immigration policy, Cubans are treated differently than other illegals because of the Cold War, now easing, between the island and Washington. Most are granted legal status, immediately offered taxpayer-funded welfare, and directed to Cuban communities around the nation.

No Room for Boasting

August 15

Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Isaiah 6:5.

Those who experience the sanctification of the Bible will manifest a spirit of humility. Like Moses, they have had a view of the awful majesty of holiness, and they see their own unworthiness in contrast with the purity and exalted perfection of the Infinite One.

The prophet Daniel was an example of true sanctification. His long life was filled up with noble service for his Master. He was a man “greatly beloved” (Daniel 10:11) of Heaven. Yet instead of claiming to be pure and holy, this honored prophet identified himself with the really sinful of Israel as he pleaded before God in behalf of his people: “We do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousness, but for thy great mercies.” “We have sinned, we have done wickedly.” He declares: “I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people.... “(Daniel 9:18, 15, 20).

When Job heard the voice of the Lord out of the whirlwind, he exclaimed: “I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes” (Job 42:6). It was when Isaiah saw the glory of the Lord, and heard the cherubim crying, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts,” that he cried out, “Woe is me! for I am undone” (Isaiah 6:3, 5). Paul, after he was caught up into the third heaven and heard things which it was not possible for a man to utter, speaks of himself as “less than the least of all saints” (2 Corinthians 12:2-4, margin;Ephesians 3:8). It was the beloved John, who leaned on Jesus’ breast and beheld His glory, that fell as one dead before the feet of the angel (Revelation 1:17).

There can be no self-exaltation, no boastful claim to freedom from sin, on the part of those who walk in the shadow of Calvary's cross. They feel that it was their sin which caused the agony that broke the heart of the Son of God, and this thought will lead them to self-abasement. Those who live nearest to Jesus discern most clearly the frailty and sinfulness of humanity, and their only hope is in the merit of a crucified and risen Saviour.

How to Live Off Grid Successfully

If you have been wondering how to live off grid – “is it really possible?” and “Can I do it?” the short answer to all of these questions is, “Yes!”.

Remember: The only sure thing in life is Change itself. There is another important rule of life that is often overlooked:
“Anyone can only teach you what they know.” Learning is a lifelong process. The long answer is still yes, just with a lot more things to take into consideration. Living off grid will take a commitment of time, resources, and determination. You will really need to believe in what you are doing, have a vision for it, and want to make it work despite the obstacles that will plague you.

Living off Grid Takes Practice

Living off grid is not the easiest way to live. Until you do it you don’t even know the things that you are going to have to give up. The big things are easy to figure out: Refrigerators, Heating systems, Television, Kitchen Appliances, and THESE ARE THINGS YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE UP!

There are other things that many people don’t think about until they are actually in the midst of it. Like indebtedness, careers, local churches & schools. Sometimes families and friends.

Jesuit Vatican Agenda THE STAGE IS SET

A Time of Trouble Such as Never Was

September 14

And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. Daniel 12:1.

When the third angel's message closes, mercy no longer pleads for the guilty inhabitants of the earth. The people of God have accomplished their work. They have received “the latter rain,” “the ... refreshing ... from the presence of the Lord,” and they are prepared for the trying hour before them. Angels are hastening to and fro in heaven. An angel returning from the earth announces that his work is done; the final test has been brought upon the world, and all who have proved themselves loyal to the divine precepts have received “the seal of the living God.” Then Jesus ceases His intercession in the sanctuary above. He lifts His hands and with a loud voice says, “It is done.” ...

When He leaves the sanctuary, darkness covers the inhabitants of the earth. In that fearful time the righteous must live in the sight of a holy God without an intercessor. The restraint which has been upon the wicked is removed, and Satan has entire control of the finally impenitent. God's long-suffering has ended. The world has rejected His mercy, despised His love, and trampled upon His law. The wicked have passed the boundary of their probation; the Spirit of God, persistently resisted, has been at last withdrawn. Unsheltered by divine grace, they have no protection from the wicked one. Satan will then plunge the inhabitants of the earth into one great, final trouble. As the angels of God cease to hold in check the fierce winds of human passion, all the elements of strife will be let loose. The whole world will be involved in ruin more terrible than that which came upon Jerusalem of old.

Those only who have clean hands and pure hearts will stand in that trying time.... Now is the time, while the four angels are holding the four winds, to make our calling and election sure.
