A new Justice Department report claims the Biden administration used federal law enforcement against parents who challenged school policies. Some of them were even described as potential "domestic terrorists" for speaking out at school board meetings.

The 273-page report, released Monday by the DOJ's Weaponization Working Group, examines former Attorney General Merrick Garland's October 2021 memorandum directing federal authorities to address alleged threats against school officials. The department says the memo followed pressure from the National School Boards Association (NSBA) and Biden White House officials.

According to the report, the FBI opened 25 "Guardian assessments" involving parents following Garland's memo.

One investigation involved a mother whom an FBI whistleblower said was scrutinized because she belonged to a "right-wing mom's group" and owned a gun.

The department also says internal DOJ and FBI personnel raised concerns about the memo, questioning its constitutional basis and whether the effort was becoming political.

One employee reportedly called the initiative "stupid, stupid, stupid," while another warned it could become an "Anti-MAGA Task Force." The report says more than a dozen DOJ and FBI personnel expressed concerns about the directive.

High school students are very anxious, mainly because of Parcoursup (France’s online platform for university admissions). Regarding all high school students in France, there is a lack of places in higher education, and the algorithms make it unclear why some of our students don't have a place in higher education even though they have excellent records, have passed the baccalaureate with honors, and therefore, we as teachers understand this movement."

"I think the French support the movement because, those who have children understand the anxieties that students, young people, experience regarding Parcoursup (France’s online platform for university admissions) and the future being offered to them. We are coming out of an extremely severe heatwave. Here, they took their exams in gyms, basements, on ping-pong tables. The public needs to know that we did not have the same study conditions; I am 50 years old. It has deteriorated significantly."

"In my opinion, the treatment by the State and police violence only make things worse. It seems quite urgent to me that the State considers having the minister meet with the young people and understand that their anxieties are real. And these are young adults, you know, they are 16, 17, 18 years old. They are future citizens. Some of them are even citizens already. They must be urgently received so that a genuine signal of appeasement is given by the government."
15. Wide of students gathering outside a high school in France during the protest
STORYLINE:
High school students built a barricade in front of  Voltaire High School in northeastern Paris on Friday, in a fifth day of protests in the French capital demanding more resources for education and denouncing pressure on students.

Voltaire High School is one of the 400 high schools that remained closed on Friday, but students nevertheless gathered in front of it. Students taking part in the protest cited staff shortages, deteriorating conditions in some schools, long school days and Parcoursup, France’s national online platform for university admissions.

Sophie Bordy, a literature teacher in Voltaire high school  says there are reasons for the students to be anxious and that parents and, more generally, the population have understanding.

Evidence Shows Catholic Officials Abused 944 Children: Massachusetts AG

Tuesday October 6th, 2026

The Epoch Times, by Zachary Stieber: Catholic clerics abused nearly 1,000 children across three dioceses in Massachusetts, the state’s attorney general said in a report published on Sept. 30.

A years-long investigation found evidence that 275 clerics, including priests and nuns, abused children, and that 944 kids reported being sexually abused, according to the report released by Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell.

The probe examined allegations of child sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic dioceses of Fall River, Springfield, and Worcester, and how the dioceses handled the allegations.

Investigators said the dioceses failed to respond adequately to child sex abuse allegations, including by failing to act on some allegations, transferring accused priests to other parishes without disclosing reasons for the transfers, and failing to consistently report allegations to law enforcement.

The alleged abuse largely took place before 2002, before The Boston Globe reported that priests at the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston abused children, and that officials covered up the abuse. The dioceses under examination have improved policies since then. The Springfield Diocese has signed a policy that mandates reporting suspected abuse of children.

“For decades, survivors of clergy sexual abuse, including those who are no longer alive, have carried the devastating consequences of abuse, while the institutions entrusted with their care too often failed to protect them. This report provides for the first time a public accounting of the unimaginable harms afflicted on children in the Fall River, Springfield, and Worcester dioceses,” Campbell said in a statement.

Unrest, Fear, and Upheaval

Prophecy

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. Luke 21:25-26.

Fulfillment

This sounds strangely like an editorial from a current newspaper--a perfect picture of the world today--and there is a reason: We are the people of the very last days of earth's history.

All around us the world is manifesting intense activity. There is a feeling of apprehension among all people; they are looking for some great event, but know not what it is to be. The nations are filled with anxiety, and there is a spirit of unrest and tumult on every hand. If ever there was a time when men should look to the Bible it is now.

The tense atmosphere present in the world today should not surprise us. Christ foretold it. It should convince us that His coming is near.

Supreme Court Set to Hear Case Involving Religious Exemptions for Private Schools to Receive Public Funds

Among a handful of religious-liberty cases the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) will hear this session, which began yesterday, one pits a Colorado nondiscrimination law against the state’s Universal Preschool Program (UPK). The early childhood program provides preschool tuition for up to 15 hours per week for students in their final year before kindergarten. Yet Colorado law prohibits funding for preschools that discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Two Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Denver contend the nondiscrimination policy, which forbids them from denying admission to students with same-sex parents, violates their First Amendment rights. They have refused to sign the nondiscrimination agreement, denying them state funds from the UPK program.

According to Linda Greenhouse, who covers SCOTUS cases for The New York Times, St. Mary Catholic Parish v. Roy concerns a 2022 ruling that declared Maine’s exclusion of religious schools from receiving publicly funded private school subsidies was unconstitutional. Plaintiffs in the Colorado case are arguing that the religious exemption in the Maine case also applies to Colorado religious schools.

The State of Colorado argues that the Maine decision prohibited disqualifying private schools from public funding solely because they provided religious education. They contend that their refusal to allow a school to receive UPK funds has nothing to do with the schools’ right to provide religious education, but with their refusal to serve particular students.

The case, scheduled to appear before the court in early November, will clarify what counts as a religious exemption in public education.

The drama ‘Adolescence’ displayed to many the dark places that teenagers go without proper guidance (Netflix)

Like most women, I was pretty horrified at the stories that emerged from the “Everyone’s Invited” campaign in 2021. The campaign invited young women to publish anonymous testimonies of peer-on-peer sexual misconduct and violence they had experienced at school. At the time, you could search all of the schools that had been mentioned and every single school I could think of, both primary and secondary schools, appeared when I searched. It was really shocking.

I would love to say that this is now a thing of the past, but it’s not.

A recent report in The Guardian revealed that thousands of cases of child-on-child sexual abuse in schools, including multiple rapes, are reported to police every year. More than a third of the rape victims were children under 13. Of those where the sex of the victim is documented, two-thirds were girls.

Every single woman I know is appalled by this. I have two daughters, but quite a few of my friends have sons. We all consider ourselves feminists, and we talked a lot at the time of the “Everyone’s Invited” campaign about how devastating it would be to have to consider whether your son was capable of behaving that way. That was the spark for my novel, entitled Such a Nice Boy: what if you are confronted with the truth of what your son has done and are forced to consider what he might be capable of?

When I was growing up, a parent’s greatest fear was that their teen might fall in with a bad crowd. Now, that “bad crowd” is their phone, and the wrong people are being actively pushed to them by algorithms, strangers, or their friends, often in the form of extreme and violent porn and misogyny.

Many parents aren’t fully aware of how common it is for boys and girls to see this sort of material and what it’s actually doing to them. There’s a very common belief that if you’ve brought your child up to be good and decent, you have somehow inoculated them against this kind of influence; that it would never be “my child” who would do something like this. But many parents just don’t really understand what their children are looking at.

Greetings, Dear Reader,

Welcome back to State of the Day, where I strip the euphemism and misdirection off that day’s news and give it to you straight, no ice, no mixer.

I should also welcome you to the …

AGE OF DELUSION

Richard Barrera entered a long recent history of left-wing politicians openly encouraging delusion when he sat for an Oct. 4 interview with Conan Nolan of NBCLA.

Recently, we’ve got Lindsay Clancy as innocent and Sydney Sweeney as guilty. We’ve got a girl who literally admitted to planning a fake rape accusation at the center of a new actual rape investigation in NY. We’ve got AI orgy polycules lobbying Dems to recognize their code has a soul and should be given special economic status.

And now we’ve got Barrera.

He’s the leading candidate for state superintendent in California, the chief executive of K-12 public education. In a clip posted by NBC, Nolan asks a simple question (emphasis mine):

Conan Nolan:

“Turning to higher education policy: there’s been an ongoing debate across California universities regarding admissions standards and standardized testing. Would you vote to bring back the SAT?”

Richard Barrera:

“Absolutely not. That, again, is an approach that’s about — if kids are struggling or not ready to do college-level work …

Philosopher and 2026 MacArthur “genius grant” recipient Felipe De Brigard explains how our brains use imagination to reconstruct the past

Neuroscience

A month ago philosopher Felipe De Brigard received a strange phone call. “Are you in a private place where you can have a private conversation?” the voice on the other end asked.

He was on a work retreat surrounded by colleagues. “Just say you need to talk about your taxes,” the caller said. De Brigard excused himself to find a private space, panicking the whole time about his taxes—but it was actually the MacArthur Foundation on the line. De Brigard had been awarded a prestigious “genius grant,” an $800,000 fellowship with no strings attached.

“I just was floored. And I had to put everything back together and walk back in like nothing happened,” says De Brigard, who is a professor at Duke University and originally from Bogotá, Colombia. He is only the second philosopher to be awarded the fellowship in the past 30 years.

De Brigard would be the first to tell you that his recollection of that day may be flawed. As a philosopher and cognitive scientist, he studies the fallibility of memory. Our brains don’t work like digital cameras recording our experiences to a mental hard drive, he explains. We store only some parts of our experience—gestures, stories, the gist. When we go to retrieve those memories, our brains need to fill in the gaps.

De Brigard’s research shows just how intertwined our brain’s memory is with imagination. We use some of the same mental machinery to reconstruct the past as we do to imagine the future—and to imagine what might have been.

Scientific American spoke with De Brigard about why false memories form, why we dwell on the roads not taken, how forgiveness influences memory and whether we should worry about artificial intelligence becoming conscious.

UK government reportedly hands out 974 hijabs to small boats migrants

Reports suggest 974 hijabs were handed

The government has given nearly 1,000 hijabs to migrants who crossed the Channel in small boats this year, according to reports.

The Mail on Sunday claims internal government documents show officials gave 974 hijabs this year, a religious headdress some Muslim women and girls wear. The hijabs were handed out in clothing packs given to every migrant that reaches the UK via small boats over the Channel, reports suggest.

The Home Office has responded by insisting it has the legal duty to provide them under the government short-term holding facility rules, first established under the Conservative government in 2018, and last amended when Rishi Sunak was Prime Minister.

A spokesperson told the Mail on Sunday: “All arrivals receive a basic dry clothing pack where required. The items available form part of standard welfare arrangements.”

In total, 15,406 packs have been given to migrants as 19,000 small boat crossings have been attempted so far this year, the report says. The breakdown of the packs reflects the fact the vast majority of small boats migrants are male, as 10,694 clothing packs for men were given out.

Only 2,760 packs were given to women, and 773 to boys and 829 for girls. Another 350 babygrows were also handed out.

The packs typically include dry, clean tracksuits to be worn while migrants are placed in 'holding rooms' or 'residential holding rooms' by immigration authorities, and disposable slippers.

Small boats crossings have fallen this year, according to Oxford University. The university’s Migration Observatory says around 36,000 people arrived by small boat in the year to May 2026, 13 percent less than in the same period the year before.

There were 41,000 arrivals in 2025, more than in all other years except 2022, when 45,000 did so.
