At 11:30 am on the morning of Saturday, June 2, 2017, Pope Francis received in audience — in the Hall of the Consistory of the Apostolic Vatican Palace –, the Evangelical leaders gathered for the Vigil of Pentecost.
Here is a translation of the Pope’s off-the-cuff greeting to them.
* * *
Thank you so much for this greeting; also for the trouble you took to greet me. Thank you for what you do, working for Christian unity, all together, as the Lord wishes. We walk together; we help the poor together, charity together, educate together – all together. And may the theologians work on their part and help us. But we always walk, never stop, never stop . . . and together. This is what I wish and I thank you because I know what you do.
I would like to end as brothers praying the Our Father, each one in his own language. Can we do so? [Our Father]
And until later. [Original text: Italian] [Translation by Virginia M. Forrester]
