These were the words* of Raja Krishnamoorthi (Subramanian Raja Krishnamoorthi), Democrat representative from the 8th congressional district of Illinois, during a hearing of Democrat governors from "asylum states" on Thursday, June 12, 2025. It's perplexing how a practicing Hindu (born in New Delhi, India) could utter this statement. In other words, despite not being Roman Catholic, Representative Krishnamoorthi (not to be confused with the late Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti) thought it opportune to mention that Pope Leo XIV was born in Illinois and that some people consider God to favor the United States of America because the Pontiff is an American from Illinois.
It's strange that Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi would bring up the Pope when this coming Saturday, June 14, 2025, there is a nationwide event planned called NO KING, to protest Trump's immigration policy and the resistance to ICE in Los Angeles, California.
This reminds me that 250 years ago in New England during the American Revolution, people would say, "No King, No Popery."
