We learn that in the last few days our King, Charles III, and his wife, paid a ‘surprise visit’ to see the Pope of Rome. This comes hard on the heels of the various favourable comments he has made regarding Islam – comments which have drawn a lot of criticism – particularly as they come from the man who promised to uphold the Protestant Reformed faith at his coronation. That is, therefore, an appointed task to make that particular effort. And so, for exactly the same reason as we criticized his favourable comments about Islam, we therefore criticize this visit to the Pope of Rome.
Now, as far as Rome is concerned, such a welcome is no surprise. After all, Karol Wojtyla, when Pope, held a ‘joint prayer session’ at Assisi with various Muslim leaders in 1986, joining with them in ‘prayer’. And recently the current Pope is reported by the Catholic News Agency to have had a brief, ‘unscheduled meeting’ with the imam of Perugia, Abdel Qader Mohammed. Even Ratzinger, when Pope, did not condemn the meeting. So it is clear that Rome is perfectly happy to hold hands with Islam, despite He whom they claim to worship not even being the same God as the false god of Islam.[1]
It is also clear that for all their ‘fiery words’ about various subjects, Rome has no intention of holding any of its high profile adherents to account for the positions they hold, especially so on morality – for example LifeSite News reports, “Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, a vocal proponent of abortion and euthanasia, was caught on camera receiving Holy Communion — just moments after a visiting priest condemned those very sins in a powerful homily.”[2]
We are therefore quite unsurprised that the Pope would welcome a man who not only says nice (and therefore erroneous) things about Islam, a man who is also supposed to be the leader of a Protestant Reformed denomination—even though that denomination makes serious criticisms about the teaching of Rome in its Articles of Faith. Indeed, Rome itself claims that their ‘Mass’ is the ‘source and summit of the Christian faith’, whilst the 39 Articles state that “Transubstantiation (or the change of the substance of Bread and Wine) in the Supper of the Lord, cannot be proved by holy Writ; but is repugnant to the plain words of Scripture”; and that “the sacrifices of Masses, in the which it was commonly said, that the Priest did offer Christ for the quick and the dead, to have remission of pain or guilt, were blasphemous fables, and dangerous deceits.” Articles of Faith which go on to say, “The Bishop of Rome hath no jurisdiction in this Realm of England.” Rome will compromise on anything if it thinks it will gain more secular power by doing so.
We are, however, deeply saddened that our King has once again demonstrated that the promises he made at his coronation were not made in sincerity, and that he continues to follow whatever path seems to him to be easiest, rather than following the path laid out for him by God’s Word. That the king would once again demonstrate ignorance of the clear teaching of Scripture, Ephesians 2:8, “by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast”, and socialize with the man many believe to be the personification of AntiChrist, offering obeisance and support to him by so doing, is shameful.
I pray that God’s Holy Spirit works in the heart of our king, bringing him to true repentance, and to a genuine and sincere faith in the only Saviour anyone can have, the Lord Jesus Christ – “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6. By whose merits alone can anyone be brought to an eternity with God. And I pray this not only for the sake of his own immortal soul, but for this nation – which he is supposed to lead in true faith, and for the individuals who are led astray by his foolish actions.
