Fourth moderate quake in two weeks rattles Mexican border state
MEXICO CITY (AP) A moderate earthquake shook northwestern Mexico near the U.S. border on Tuesday. No major damage or injuries were immediately reported.
The quake struck at about 2:40 p.m. and had a magnitude of 5.0, according to the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colorado. It was centered 15 miles southeast of the border city of Mexicali and about 100 miles east of Tijuana.
Baja California's civil protection office said it was checking for damaged buildings and injured people Tuesday afternoon.
Three other moderate temblors with magnitudes of 5.4, 5.1 and 5.0 have rattled the area in the last two weeks, causing blackouts and temporarily knocking out cell phone service.
