The Women’s Edge Coalition (Edge) is a successful, cutting-edge, results-oriented organization working to make U.S. foreign assistance and trade policy improve the lives of women in poverty around the world. Founded in 1998, Edge has leveraged tens of millions of dollars in U.S. foreign assistance for women around the world and has become the leading voice on global women’s issues in Washington, D.C. Since 2006, Edge has been a founding, co-convening member of the Women, Faith, and Development Alliance (WFDA).
WFDA is co-founded by Washington National Cathedral's Center for Global Justice and Reconciliation, InterAction's Commission on the Advancement of Women, Religions for Peace and the Women's Edge Coalition. It is a powerful new force dedicated to engendering global efforts to reduce poverty by increasing political will and action to increase investments in women's and girls' empowerment around the world. WFDA will launch its international action and advocacy campaign at BREAKTHROUGH: The Women, Faith and Development Summit to End Global Poverty in Washington DC, April 13-15, 2008. Chaired by Madeline Albright, BREAKTHOUGH will be a high profile gathering where world leaders, heads of denominations and faith groups, CEOs of development organizations, corporate leaders and celebrities will commit to a global agenda of action and advocacy to empower women and girls. Some principal tasks of the WFDA Advocacy consultant will be: * Managing the process of obtaining, screening, compiling, and organizing a wide range of commitments from NGO’s, world leaders, politicians, economic institutions, corporations, high net worth individuals, and celebrities * Collaborating with and coordinating the tasks of the WFDA Advocacy and Summit Planning Working Groups * Planning and coordinating the logistics of a highly visible Advocacy Day on capitol hill on the third day of BREAKTHOUGH * Creating advocacy toolboxes of next steps for summit participants * Assisting the US Outreach manager in reaching out to and obtaining commitments from NGO’s and other international campaigns around WFDA’s advocacy agenda
Required Qualifications: * Proven leadership and relationship-development skills * Ability to translate a vision into a work plan and achieve measurable results * Experience with coalition building between organizations (particularly NGO’s) * Event Planning Experience (particularly with congressional offices, preferred) * Understanding of global anti-poverty efforts and the role of NGO’s, the corporate sector, and U.S. and international economic and political institutions * Ability to coordinate various moving projects while incorporating the input of, and reporting back to, many different actors * Experience working within an advocacy organization preferred
