A powerful offshore earthquake of magnitude 7.6 struck near Davao Oriental, Philippines, prompting a possible hazardous tsunami warning. Centered 62 kilometers southeast of Manay town at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, the quake may cause damage and aftershocks. Tsunami waves up to 3 meters were possible along nearby coasts. The Philippines, still recovering from a Sept. 30 magnitude 6.9 quake in Cebu, faces frequent natural disasters due to its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire.”
