The Pentagon is preparing a "doomsday plan" called FORTRESS to keep US military bases operational for at least 90 days without civilian power, water or fuel

The Pentagon is reportedly developing a "doomsday plan" designed to maintain US military base operations independently of other nations. This initiative emerges as the US grapples with managing two significant conflicts.
According to FOX News, the plan would enable US military installations to function for a minimum of 90 days without external assistance in the event of a major war that could devastate power grids, interrupt supply chains and endanger vital infrastructure across US territory.
This strategy is part of FORTRESS, a broader military program aimed at ensuring US forces can continue operations even when civilian systems they depend on are disrupted. It comes after a terrified general's brutal 1-word comment to Trump after he tried to access the nuclear codes.

"We don't want to rely on standard civilian municipal infrastructure to run our national defence. We just simply can't. It's an intolerable risk," Pentagon chief spokesperson Sean Parnell told Fox News Digital.
The Pentagon is also establishing frameworks for civilian manufacturing facilities to transition to defense production during emergencies, reports the Express.

"Power is combat now. Without electricity, you lose communications, water, logistics, assembly lines and just basic military command structures," Mr Parnell said.
Each major military installation within the continental US would be required to maintain critical operations independently for no less than 90 days. This would encompass access to electricity, water, fuel and communications.
"I realized that a lot of the way we think about homeland defence was built around the antiquated assumption that two oceans would protect us," Mr Parnell said. "President Trump understands that world is gone, and he's already paved the way for new thinking: Golden Dome, a renewed focus on the Western Hemisphere, Greenland, Panama."

A key worry centers on the military's dependence on civilian electrical infrastructure.
These networks support vital functions including communications, logistics, and weapons production.
The FORTRESS program proposes portable nuclear reactors, extensive battery storage systems, and microgrids that would enable military bases to disconnect from civilian electrical networks, ensuring continued operations during extended power outages.
Pentagon officials have outlined strategies to decrease major military bases' reliance on civilian power infrastructure. The 90-day independence target extends beyond electricity to encompass all critical services required for sustained military operations.
Mr Parnell has described FORTRESS as an insurance policy for the homeland. The program aims to guarantee US military forces can function even if conflict damages infrastructure and disrupts supply networks.
"You don't want to be making these decisions in the middle of a global multi-front conflict. We have to have a plan," he said.
It comes after Danica Patrick made an unsettling demand to the Trump administration.
