An Italian missionary in Cairo predicts that Egyptians, in time, will become disenchanted with Islamist rule. According to provisional election results, the Muslim Brotherhood received 40% of the vote in November 28 elections, while the even more radical Salafis received 20%.
“Although it will take some years,” said Father Luciano Verdoscia, “ultimately people will prevail in the disenchantment of the formula presented by the political ideology of Islamic parties.”
“In Tahrir Square a liberal core has been created because in fact the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafis have sided with the army in the fighting in past days,” he added.
