Zohran Kwame Mamdani takes the oath of office as Mayor of New York City in an abandoned Subway Station at Midnight on January 1, 2026.
While Zohran Mamdani becomes the Mayor of New York City, Ayatollah Khamenei is facing protests and civil unrest in Tehran. Mamdani is not only a Democratic Socialist, but also a Shia Muslim, specifically a Twelver. Similarly, Ayatollah Khamenei is also a Shia Muslim and holds the highest authority in the Islamic Republic of Iran, a theocratic state. The contrast between Mamdani in New York City, USA and Ayatollah Khamenei is stark and noteworthy. While Mamdani, a Shia Muslim, takes on the role of mayor in New York City, his fellow Shia Muslim, Ayatollah Khamenei, is potentially facing a coup d'etat and the loss of his authority.

Zohran Mamdani took an oath and became Mayor of New York City at an underground Subway Station. Mamdani's life changed while he was belowground, just like his prophet Muhamad before him whose life was changed while dwelling in a cave.
BTW, Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit Order was also transformed while abiding in a cave.
